I don't know what's its made of but it's a good idea to remove it and replace it with a napa locking cap (less than $10) for cheap insurance against jealous a-holes.
are you talkin about the black plastic gas cap?? or you are talkin about that shinny alumium gas door?? if the gas, it's polished CAST Alumium with clear coat over it...
