Looked at/drove a 01 yellow RT this morning. I'm thinking of making the guy an offer. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance for any and all input.

* About 4,000 miles
* Bone stock
* One small paint chip on the edge of the hood near the headlight
* One very small paint flaw on the side sill, says from factory
* Otherwise paint appears perfect
* Soft top has never been on the car
* Had a factory chip/gouge in windshield, replaced under warranty
* Says carfax will show nothing other than windshield, I haven't checked
* Says absolutely nothing wrong, nothing else has been worked on other than
above
* Says never in the rain or driven on a track
* In service date was June 02 which means over one year of original warranty
left (this is a huge positive to me)
* Car is about a 100 miles from my home (another positive)
* He is original owner, just had oil changed w/ Mobile 1

From what I've seen similar cars go for on Ebay, I think something in the $53k range is fair. Given the warranty and the fact I don't have to travel to it or have it shipped, I'm thinking of offering $54k. He's thinking $58k.

Any opinions?

I would expect to pay atleast $55k, maybe even more this time of the year. Unless you found it on Ebay and then he may just be trying to unload it.
Good luck! :2tu:

Sounds like reasonable advice. I want to do exhaust and wheels immediately on this, or whatever I buy. Any extra $$ I spend on the car will eat into to the mod budget. However, I want the "right" car. Not just any car at a low price. So, sounds like a final price of 54k, perhaps 55k is reasonable.

$55K or even $56-57K is not unreasonable for an 01 in very good to excellent condition. Especially one so close to home. If the car was in California, you'd have to buy it for *at least* $2K less to offset shipping and going to look at the car. Not to mention the hassle of trying to do a deal long distance. If you like the car, buy it.

Good luck!

just bought the same car last month with 2400 miles for 55k at dealer. I was looking at others for 59k at another dealer but they were firm on price.

R Hummer,

Good info, thank you. You didn't waist anytime on the mods. It's supercharged already? Wow.

55K is very fair price...up to 57K is still a deal

Like Ron said - the fact that its close, you've seen it in person, and everything so far checks out, makes it that much more valuable

Good luck, i hope you get it

I'm open to any and all help. This will be my first high performance car purchase in 12 years. I've wanted a viper for 4-5 years and am finally going to pull the tigger and get one. I want the original body style RT, 01 or 02. If this deal doesn't work out, I'll find another. The fact that the car is reasonably close to where I live is a big plus for many reasons including those mentioned by Ron Hickey above. I think this guy has taken good care of the car but I am a little concerned about how it was run during the breakin period. I asked him about it and he didn't seem to know what I was talking about. The warranty gives me at least some comfort there. It would appear that he gets something new every few years. Mentioned that he's owned seven vettes and is considering getting an 04 Viper. Well, see. Again, any and all advice is appreciated.

He was going to offer to help out and look at it for you. Nice of ya Red :2tu:

That's what I was gonna offer. I know of the identical car that is for sale by an aquaintence in So Cal, so I was gonna give you some insight on the car, but as it is in Ohio, no can do. :) Good luck with the car.
