What's the Best Way to Get a Good Dyno Number?

Over the past few months I've heard that there's a way to run an '08 on the dyno to get a better reading than you'd get if you just ran 'normally'.

So my question....

What's the best way to run an '08 to get the best reading on a dyno? Is it the same as every other car?

Contact your local Dyno, get a base number & go from there. Maybe they can add horsepower on a corrected formula. If you want the real horsepower, remove your engine & get the engine dyno done.

There was a post recently a out the issues with an 08 on the dyno. There is some sort of full throttle timer that will retard spark after a period of wide open throttle. I think it was in herbs forum. Mark j. Can give you some details.

The timer is 12 seconds of WOT above 4400 rpm so there should not be a issue now. All cars will give a more real number if the load the dyno gives it is realistic as if it were on the road for loads. An inertia dyno will inflate the hell out of the number.

Cheating dynos would be merely for bragging rights, that is called dyno racing and people who do it could be the mayor of Poserville. They are a measurement tool, and before/after results are the only thing that really matters. I've seen young punks doing all sorts of things to try and manipulate dyno numbers. Some of them air the rear tires up to 50+ psi, even saw one idiot Honda kid using a bottle of nitrous (hand held) to spray into his filter during a pull. Get a baseline pull as-is, and then go modify your car and come back. See what the net gain is, that is what is important.

I've had my 06 Supercharged coupe dyno'd a couple of times to check the A/F. On a Dynojet it puts out 647 RWHP and 599 lb/ft of torque. On a Dyno Dynamics with no changes it put out 557 RWHP and 565 lb/ft of torque. Needless to say the type of dyno makes a HUGE difference! :drive:

This is what I was looking for!

I don't want more power.... well....:D

There's a group of us doing some dyno runs on Monday and I was just wondering what I need to do to get a 'correct' number. I don't want to cheat it and I don't want to modify anything. I just want to make sure that I don't do anything that kills the number. I guess more than 12 seconds above 4400rpm would do it - and that's not likely to happen.

Thanks!

Greg,

... dyno results for my 08 ACR....best run out of three is when the eng. rev. was at 4000 rpm. and then hit the gas all the way. The results were 548.6 hp and tq. 509.7. the other two runs 541.7 hp and tq. 503.8; 541.9, tq 515.7 eng. rev'd to about 2800 rpm, before hitting the gas. Mind you the best result was the last run...could it be due to heat soak!!!

What I did to get my number s tad bit higher was go to Underground and spend about $40,000 then I took it somewhere else and spent about $25,000 and now it dynos around 1500+HP on 27 pounds of boost.

From what I've been able to gather dynos are not calibrated so getting a "correct' number is an exercise in futility. You might go to a dozen different dynos run by a dozen different shops and average the results. Otherwise just take Nine Ball's advice to use a dyno only for before/after values. A net gain value is more believeable than a total value, at least until dyno shops calibrate their dynos.
