Wheels Sizes -- 18\" vs 19\"+

Thinking about going with some aftermarket wheels. I am curious as to the positives and negatives associated with wheel sizes. Particularly 18" vs 19".

Eventually I want to upgrade my brakes and I believe 18"+ will accomodate that.

Other questions I have pertain to the differences of 18 vs 19 with respect to:

1. Handling
2. Tires Available
3. Grip of the tires available

Anything else I might be leaving out??

Thank you very much in advance for your response.

IMHO I believe that 19" have the best look and fit for the car. Most 13" and 14" brake roters fill up the space nicely. Mine are 19" wheels with a 13" rotor.

18 for availability (which by nature, covers grip and handling too)

When 19s have the selection 18s have then there might be a handling argument. But there would also be the "more rotating mass" argument, so who knows? Time will tell, seems to be a trend in the 19 direction anyway.

I will say that I'll be going with 18 up front for sure and probably 18 in the rear. As for weight, when you have the very light forged wheels the tires are actually heavier than the wheel so it may not be heavier to go with 19's if it's a very high end setup.

Go with both. Get a set off a SRT (18" front/19" rear) 5 spoke look the best IMHO. :2tu:

Hey Jon,

Your car has 17" now, stock size, correct?

One other consideration, if the final total height (diameter) of the tire/wheel set up gets larger, you are effectively raising (numerically lowering) your gear ratio. In other words, your ratio would drop below the stock 3.07 with an overall larger diameter set up.

Note: It is possible, in some cases, to keep the diameter the same with a thinner sidewall. It is often, however, raised.

I would go 18'' for racing. There is much more tire selection available.
And I would go with 19'' for street. Espetially because of the Pirelli 355 tire ...
