I love the way the car sounds. I probably don't even need the stereo but when I turn the stock unit on it sound wimpy. No bass and hardly even a mid-range. I am very surprised that Dodge couldn't come up with anything better. The stock unit in my Jeep Cherokee sounds great. I am very nervous about some stereo shop doing surgery on my snake. I am not excited about forking over a lot of cash for a new system. Do you have any suggestions?

Stock system ***** because Dodge put all there money on styling/performance and I think we are all thankfull for that. Either live with it or get a custom system like I did. Eclipse all the way around. :headbang:

Dimitrios,

Were the Polk's direct fitment? In other words, did they have to enlarge the stock location? How is the midbass response on these?

Thanks

I don't think that your comment justifies the sacrifice on quality. Would $200 more have really made a difference?

When the car sits still, you can see the speakers from 50 feet away. It sort of announces that your about to hear some great sound.

Is the problem in the head unit or the speakers?

Felt the same way when I heard my stock stereo. It was the first mod I made and well worth the $. Nothing worse than pulling up to a stop light in a $70,000 car with your stereo cranked and have people laugh at the distortion. Replaced the head, all speakers, and amp. Have an amp under each seat..yep..they fit! :2tu:

The stock stereo is quite good. Its invironment is what is so bad. Stick that same stereo in a different car (say ford taurus) and you would be quite surprised. Granted I upgraded mine the first week I had the car, its really hard to get a good sound in that car. The front speakers are at your feet and the rears are behind (GTS) 15+ gallons of liquid.

You do have do dump a little cash into getting the viper to sound good using brute force, big speakers, and alot of power. But, hey, isnt that what these cars are about? Brute force.

hi sbkim....no cutting out bigger holes. they are 6.5 inch diameter. they just had to put an extension cause they went in to deep. i had JL audio crx si's before and memphis and the polks produced the best bass and mids. the other sounded pretty much like stock. also the polks do not crack or pop when the radio is blasted like the others did. trust me. they sounds awesome and match the yellow of the exterior.

SapphireGTS:Do you like my system set up in my Viper?

I have not heard it. What all do you have? Ill probably upgrade mine once again when I get it back.
I meant the look of my system. You will just have to trust me it sounds awesome. Eclipse deck, amp and 2-10 inch subs. My pictures were posted a few weeks back. Type in "Doug Roose's Viper" you will see the system then. Tell me what you think. :headbang:

MB quart or JL audio 6.5 components WILL fit in doors and maintain complete stock look. an 8" sub WILL fit between seats with some good custom work or if thats not preferable the JL audio 6W0 sub will fit perfect without any mods. enclose that ***** well and dynomat everything. put two the amps and crossovers in trunk (for poser effect)such as a JL 300x4 and a 150 for the sub alone and your system will thump with excellent loudness and excellent clarity

I installed a JL 6wo speaker and it sounds like crap. How did you "enclose" the back of yours? Fiberglass?

Custom made fiberglass box is where the subs sit. The only way to go.

Makes sense.. Never messed with fiberglass before. Anybody out there pay to have it done at a shop? I wouldn't think that it should empty my wallet too much would it? Remember, not ALL Viper owners are loaded with cash. :p

My local audio store custom made me 2-fiberglass cases for my subs. They did the entire install for free because,I agreed they could use my Viper for a couple of there in-store commercials. Oh the benefits of owning a Viper!!! :headbang:
