Winter Project - Rotors and Pads

Folks,

Subject has probably beeen beaten to death but...........

I plan to chnage my Rotor's and shoes out this winter. I have seen all the hype on the Stoptech rotors with the 08 ACR. I did a price check today and got a quote for the two piece Aerorotor in slotted configuration for 950.00 and drilled for 1,050.00 per axle. Seems aa bit pricey to me, but perhaps you get what you pay for. I'm a believer in that.

I also looked at EBC combined drilled and slotted with the prices ranging from 500.00 to 700.00 per axle. Seems a bit more reasonable but they are one piece rotors. Stoptech also has a one piece but is only available slotted, I haven't looked at the price for that yet. They also have a stage one kit that includes SS lines and pads with those one piece rotors.

What is your folks opinion of either and advantages of one over the other. Also does anyone have an alternative they feel is better and why? price ranges and sources would be helpful too.

I also want new pads as the OEM pads dust is driving me nuts. I don't track the car and want something that has little to no noise and dust to put in when I change the rotors.

Ditto; the general consensus is that while drilled rotors are ok for light track duty if you intend to do any significant tracking you want ot go with slotted rotors. The slotted rotors have the same advantage of increased "bit" for the calipers and pads and venting of gases off the rotor but are not as prone to cracking as the drilled variants.

On the other hand, if you are not going to track, the drilled rotors look very cool.

I know it's a poser mod and they say they are prone to cracking...but I love the way the cross drilled rotors look...also those Eurotek rotors look very cool

EBC rotors here but they have doubled in price in last 8 months...As far as low dust pads EBC red are the only option that i am aware off and they still produce dust and also have a lengthy squeaky break in period even with new rotors... that being said i'll probably do the same set up on 08

I also would be interested in a group buy on rotors - especially rotors that would save some weight. I think Jon B has the Stoptechs starting at $900 and he has been a strong site supporter.

I put the EBC rotors on my Range Rover and they warped just like the stock rotors - so I will not be using them. Also, I know its been beat to death, but in my opinion, while the EBC pads do have less dust, I did feel that they had less bite and stopping power on my Rover.

I am going to stick with the stock pads for now. I think we go with either the stoptech 2pc or the eurotech that was posted on this site.

I think it's very hard if not impossible to find dustless pads that stop as good as the dusty ones; softer pads work better. Otherwise, the factory would already have done it for you. Drilled rotors are for looks (dam, they look good though!).

No need for a group buy folks, he gave me a great price that I couldn't pass on. Even called me back and asked what size t-shirt I wear. Jon B rocks.......

NOT im my experience ... i've used axxis(BMW) and centri(SRT jeep) in the past with no dust and excellent stopping but not available for the viper

BMW pads have to be the worst...I'm not sure if ceramics are available, they seem to help the dust. But, during spirited driving events, they will fade

FWIW, I went with EBC Green Pads on my DD SVT Focus.
While they stop great and do not squeak at all, they make plenty of dust.

axxis are not bmw pads but they do fit some bmws.. best pad i ever used

 

[Viper Specialty]

The new EBC Greens are not the correct application for the Viper any longer, and are not their "lowest dust" series either. EBC Reds are the way to go now.
