Xmission fluid change - only 3.5 quarts - Whats up?

So I am changing the xmission fluid in my 94. The shop manual says 4 quarts of Dex IIE (which is not made anymore so I use Dextron III). Out comes 3.5 quarts, in goes 3.5 quarts. I have the rest on my face to prove it. What is going on? Car is level. Even tried raising the front end, the baby was empty. Do I need to get out my wifes Betty Crocker cook book to verify a quart or what?

That's not so unusual. Out of all of the tranny oil changes I've done the range has been 3.5 to 4 qts.?? I don't think you'll get an exact answer on this one?
Try three circles to the right and then four to the left and back up fourteen & a half feet and then check the level.

Same with the diff. I've never been able to put the 40+ oz. in it. Maybe if I tap it with a drain plug instead of sucking it out.
