I have a question for those previously owning a GTS and now driving a SRT10 coupe:
How do you feel about the new coupe compared to the old one?

I own a GTS, but driven the srt coupe a bit... the srt is the better performing car hands down, but nothing beats the nostalgia and looks of the gts. The Gen1-2 were a look back, the Gen 3's are a look forward. I'll always have a GTS, but the Gen 3's and above will be cars I sell and move on as they evolve.

Better put, the Gen1-2 is your first love, while the srt's are the plastic boobed women you meet at *******. :D

Chad's driving the wrong car.... :D

This topic will continue to always have 2 very opposite sides. I love the look and sound of a GTS. Its what people are used to and have seen for the last 10+ years. But as more and more people begin to see the SRT , it is what I think is the new favorite.

My buddy had a S/C B/W GTS, everyone liked it, but he has had just as many if not more looks and positive comments in the new 06 B/W Coupe. I used to love seeing his car in my rear view mirror or following his GTS. But now seeing his 06 Coupe, its just beautiful. Lowered on Motons, its bad a$$. And you cant argue technology. So Id always look to the new stuff. Better suspension, better driving, better brakes, etc. And as much as I love the GTS or even the first Viper, its a classic but dated. I like even the little things on the SRT like the newer looking headlights, the better looking stock wheels, 5 spoke of course, I like that they went back to side exhaust. It just looks cool.

I think alot of people have too much money and emotion ******* in there older Vipers, If money were not a factor, I think most would rather drive a Newer model. Spend a few days or weeks in a SRT and you will be sold.

You almost had me there. I started to sniffle a little about letting the GTS go.

And then I looked out to the parking lot.

SCREW THAT!

That's why people like me have two Viper's, both Gen 2's cause we can't afford a SRT. I'm very jealous and hope to save up enough to get a nice red SRT/10. What are they going for, about 48K now? My 10 year old GTS is worth more than that...damn old artifact that it is. :lmao:

I've never understood the assumption that anyone who likes/drives/prefers the looks and style of a Gen 1 or Gen 2 only does so because they can't afford a Gen 3.

I have to jump in....with my .02. Had Gen I, totally tricked out...S/C, H2O ****, NOS, custom interior, paint, stereo, Kinesis 2 piece wheels, etc. etc......it was totaled by tech on a test drive....I won't bore you again with the awful details.....was Viperless for 1 week, and bought an 05 Commemorative Ed. now with S/C, Belangers, 3:55's. My Gen I had been totally "re-engineered" with Baer brakes, 3:73's, Eibachs, etc.....and I will say there is NO COMPARISON between the 2 cars. Yes, the Gen 3 get's just as many looks, wow's and thumbs up as I ever did with the Gen I. With my Gen I had won 53 first place trophies, a number of Best of Shows, so it was trick.....YET....I would not go back to a Gen I or II. With the performance, better handling, the best BRAKES in the world and a VERY classy design, the Gen 3 hands down is a much better car. Won 1st place at 2 recent car shows.....one an all Mopar show with 5 other Vipers ( GTS's) in my class, and the last an "open" show with 12 cars in my class including a very nice 97 B/W GTS. I believe that pretty much says it all when it comes to what the other car owners, and the general public think of the new design of the Viper. Gen 1 and 2........unbelievable.....and very CLASSIC.......the Gen 3, updated classic and very, very CLASSY! Yet, I still believe it's in the eyes of the beholder....both have their appeal! I would also like to know where anyone came up with the fact that all Gen 3's are available at around $48K and that GTS's were bringing more money! If that would be the case, I'll buy a $48K Gen 3 coupe to go along with the vert! That would mean that you CAN afford a Gen 3, instead of a Gen 2, because as you say the Gen 2's are MORE "expensive" now that the Gen 3's!

I did a show recently and parked next to some guy with an '06 Mustang. Nice car with Rousch Stage II effects and lots of interior bling. His was red, and my red GTS looked good next to it. A small wall of red lets call it.

Anyway, to the point, I asked all of the teeny boppers going by which they liked best.

The Mustang got the vote most every time.

Why? Cause it looks new and blingy. So does the SRT.

So I'd be curious what the average age of Gen 2 owner is. Someone that can appreciate a "car" and not "new and blingy."

Appearance-wise, I'd say it is a draw for me. I like the GTS as well as the SRT-Coupe. One of the big killers for me on the GTS cars is that most of them still roll around on stock wheels. A nice GTS with aftermarket wheels looks 100x better in my opinion.

I wouldn't mind picking up a 1996 blue/white GTS to go with my 2006 blue/white coupe. But, that 1996 car would have some nicer wheels on it ASAP ;)

$ 30k cars.......

At any rate it wasnt meant to be snobish, I guess we could sell our SUV and buy 2 GTS. It just gets stupid.
It was never about money, only the fact the comment I heard most at VOI9 was " I got so much ******* in my Gen 2, it just deosnt make sens to get a GEN 3. Though everyone I was with in my group that had a Gen 2 wanted a Gen 3 after driving it around the track for awhile. The biggest reason....Brakes. So if you can run out and get a GEN 3 for 30k do it.

I know their are GEN 1/2 owners that have more money then they know what to do with. Still if there GEN 1/2 isnt broke, why fix it. But fact is the GEN 3 is the better car, hands down. Around the track, around the mall,to the grocery store, you cant argue that.

Thats why I said there are two very opposite sides..................

I didn't say ALL Gen 3's can be had for 48K obviously.
But you can get an 03 or 04 vert with decent low miles for that.
The point was that some people actually like the Gen 1 and 2's better than the looks of the Gen 3's, as hard as that is to accept.

Yikes just drop it this has been discussed a thousand times.

I basically bought a new 01 GTS with 985 miles on it. I also drove a new SRT with under 2000 miles on it and I can honestly say that I did not see a major difference in the two cars. Definitely did not see or feel a major improvement in the SRT. Maybe some very suttle differences but nothing earth shattering. I could afford either one with what I paid for my GTS and can honestly say I am glad I got the GTS. I think you really can't go wrong either way but some of these guys doing some comparisons are comparing a higher mileage Gen II or Gen I to a new SRT10 which is comparing apples to oranges. Try driving a newer (low mile) Gen II and then compare to a SRT10 and I will bet the difference is MUCH less.

I do not know how you can choose between the two.I have been in several SRT's and I like the way they look and drive,in fact there is very likely an 08 or 09 in my immediate future.Having said that, the GTS is a benchmark in how an American sports/muscle car should look,it defined the era it was designed in,much like the Cobra and Corvette in the sixties. In 25 years the GTS/ RT will be the shape that is remembered and you won't be mistaken for driving a Corvette.

I back to backed the 05 I just had just bought for my father in 05 and the 02 ACR I still had back then. After driving the 05, it numbered the days of the 02. I now drive the 06. It is quite simply a better Viper in all aspects. Only arguable one I can see is esthetics. And thats subjective.

Also this gen 3 vs gen 2 crap is stupid, why fight, buy what you like. As far as the argument goes, the pricing on a gen 1 is rock bottom cheap, but it doesnt mean they are any less of a viper. You wont get a low mileage coupe (as this title states) for 48k, just wont happen. Now can you get a low mileage srt10 from 03/04 for that? maybe/probably. But you certainly can get a low milage GTS for that all day long. So the price points means nothing, thats the market. The market doesn’t determine our love for the cars, or their abilities. I personally dont think an Enzo was worth 1.6 mill, but thats what the market said it was. So pricing is a matter of supply and demand, not cars abilities. That same car when sold for 600k originally does nothing more today at 1.6 mill.

Rant over.

Well I wasn't talking about comparing esthetic matter between the gen 2 and gen 3.:nono:
I was asking about driving experience, confort, pleasure and comparaison between the GTS and the new coupe.:D
For those who could experienced both cars, what's your comments, which one is your favourite drive?:drive:

Nothing but bad ever comes of the Gen vs. Gen debate, it's been going on here since '03.
To each his own we can all agree.
They are all Vipers and they are all unique and special.

A GTS vs new coupe might have been a better comparison. I have heard that ACR's ride horrible and the shocks rattle. Never driven one myself so I can only go by what others say. :dunno:

Best looking 96 B/W GTS, second best 99 Black w/ stripes, third 2006 B/W coupe. I think the Gen III coupes look good, the convertible just doesn't do it for me. Then again I have never been an RT/10 fan...but they are still better than vettes!

Gen II GTS's just look so cool!

I am probably one of the better sources of information for answering this question, if I may be so bold. I own both an '06 SRT Coupe and a low mileage GTS Coupe. Both cars are terrific, yet different from one another. Believe it or not, some things about the GTS are better. Visibility, particularly rearward, is better. Interior heat is less in the GTS. Brakes are significantly stronger on the SRT but if you are not road racing, the GTS brakes are more than strong enough. It is not an issue on a street driven car, at all. The interior on the SRT looks nicer and in its own way, feels better than any car I have driven. It fits snug, like a glove. The GTS interior has a less than beautiful dash but the interior is very comfortable. The GTS has less supportive seats than the SRT but on the other hand, it's a bit roomier. With the '08 Viper PS2's on the GTS, it handles superbly. Steering is extremely precise and doesn't give away anything to the newer model. Both cars feel like high quality cars when you drive them. Both are beautiful to me. The GTS is a very special car and the last one was already made. Not taking anything away from the SRT but it was the first Viper to get beaten by a corvette and this fact has hurt its image.
