Well I guess it wasn't all the way thru but...........

I was working to get my new Roe fascia kit on. This kit is made to get more air in the radiator at high speeds. I really was close to being done but I needed a helper to hold some parts I was drilling the pilot holes for the rivets. Instead of doing something smart (like calling a friend to help me) I had my wife hold the parts. We did fine the first couple of times (although I nicked her finger once) but really it was a bonding experience. Then, well, everything went bad:

I had my wife hold a piece I was getting ready to drill. In my defense I told her exactly where the drill bit was going to pop up thru the metal. The problem was I didn't check where her hand was before I drilled. I start drilling the pilot hole go thru the metal and the bit goes directly right in the middle of her thumb. My heart sank. She gets up screaming, crying holding her hand in pain. She then runs in the door. I run after her. After a couple of minutes I finally get her to show me her hand. I felt SO BAD. There was a perfect 3/16 hole right in the middle of her thumb. It looked like a piece of bone or something was on top of her thumb. I wanted to drill a hole in my head, I just couldn't stand myself. I started pleading with her how sorry I was. My wife as good of a person she is (still crying) said "It wasn't your fault you told me where the drill bit was going." I still couldn't believe myself and my stupidity.

After about 30 min I finally got her to go to the hospital. We got to Olathe Med and they saw us rather quickly. After the x-rays and the doctors evaluation it turns out I nicked her bone. (Bad but nothing serious) And she just needs to keep it clean and in a splint. She got something for the pain and she is doing fine now. :)

Afterwards she said "I am sorry you didn't get your car done today"….”I know you really wanted to get it done”

How did a dumb a$$ like me get so lucky? I love my wife.

Dude! Not the right way to "drill your wife"!!!

On the plus side, you did say it was a "perfect 3/16 hole". Good job! Any job worth doing is worth doing perfectly!

After posting what happened, any Viper friends you have are prob gonna be pretty skeptical of ever helping you again. You better let her hit you in the head with a hammer and call it even. Next time she knows if you mutilate her, she'll at least get some revenge.

Did you ask the doctor to not use a lot of gauze so she'll still be able to hold the stuff you need drilled without it slipping and you possibly harming the car this time?

Ok, its early Sunday morning, thats all I got.

But seriously, glad she's ok and she may really enjoy my idea of hitting you with a hammer :D

LMAO.

I'm sorry brother, but you told that story perfectly. My wife laughed her ass off. Funny as hell, and a great wife you got there. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.:2tu:

Has your wife said some disparaging comments about the Viper within earshot of the car? I can think of no other reason why it would feel the need to "bite" her so viciously. Especially when she is cool enough to help work on it.

Roses aren't getting you out of this one, boy 'o!

I seeeeeense...... a trip to Paradise Island coming in the near future.....

And hey, you've got to get her to laugh it off. We have ALL shed blood and tears working on our weekend cars.

Kudos to your wife for being so cool. :2tu::headbang:

Looks like Tusc beat me to it. :)

Blood, Sweat and Tears. It's what holds our cars together. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be our own, though...

Damm, that was hard to read! Kept me on the edge of my seat! Yikes!

Glad she is going to be ok. I guess we always have to make sure our work buddy is paying attention to potentially hazardous conditions, but women generally aren't into this kind of thing, so can't really pass the blame on to her, its the guy who should ensure her safety. Not preaching to you, just speaking my thoughts out loud here.

Most importantly, she is not seriously injured. If there is anything to be thankful for, its that, plus, her understanding. When you are done kicking yourself, go buy her some flowers!

Actually I did this to my wife on purpose quite some time ago. She was always losing her keys and now they are handily on her thumb at all times. You should consider leaving the hole and take advantage of it's practical applications.

Sorry to hear! Thats a quick way to ruin the day!

just realized as I was reading this I began to rub my thumb as if I did it to myself.

eesh... been there done that.

Drill into the finger: Check.
Air hammer through the fingernail: Check
Screwdriver into the hand: Check, Check, Check, Check and Check.

And my Crowning acheivement: I somehow managed to put a BB and a Blowgun Dart into (cough, through) the same finger within two weeks.

Yah, that's what I was thinking. With that size hole you could have drilled and tapped the bone for a #10 eye hook thus plugging the hole, saving you a trip to the hospital (when you were busy) and making it useful all at the same time.

Seriously, glad she is ok and she sounds wonderful; you're a lucky guy. Along with the diamonds buy lots of chocolates.

No eye hook needed, she just threads her key ring through the thumb. And her being somewhat slight in stature, I can hang her on the coat rack when there's no ironing to do.

Thanks Mary :)

I have flowers being sent to her Monday at work. (Kurt E gave me that idea) I think she will appreciate that a bit more especially since I have the winning ticket. :D

Well,...I think you should suprise her and ask her out for a date. get all dressed up. and take her out to dinner somewhere she has always wanted to go where you have not taken her. have a dosen roses brought out to your table before you order your meal. get on down on your knees and apploigse for your mistake and tell her you could never live without her.
I then think this boo boo will not haunt you.;)
