"-I would actually advise running the 01' PCM instead. The later PCM's are actually JTEC+ and have faster processing speeds. (96-98 are the slowest, 99-02 are in the middle, and 03-06 are the fastest of the JTEC controllers) I can always send you a screen shot of some parameters of a 96-99 PCM so you can copy them into the other year PCM to get the benefit of both."

Was the '01 PCM different than the '00 and '02?

If I get an '01 are there any compatibility issues with my '97 car?

No compatibility issues between any 96.5-02 PCM other than a bit of tune differences... which would be overwritten by SCT anyway. 01 and 02 are the same, but 99, 00 and 01-02 are slightly different tunes. They are the the same controller however.

The PCM's changed to a slightly faster version somwhere around 98-99, I havent logged a 98 yet to tell which version it is using- but I know that 96-97s are slower than 99-02.

Awesome, that would probably end up less than going the AEM route. The only problem now is finding someone to tune it.....

I don't suppose you would know the part number of this PCM would you?

There are multiple part numbers over those years. If you find one, let me know and I will confirm it is one of the many used during those years.

I forgot one last factor. I'm using a Greddy Profec II to control my boost. If I go the SCT route what do I use to control the boost? So I would still use my VEC and Profec along with the SCT for complete management?

Assuming the Profec is set up as a boost controller only, then yes, you would retain it [or replace it with any other boost controller]

The VEC would be advisable to retain as well for things like additional fuel pump control, timing pull, and fuel add. Everything else off-boost would be dont with the SCT. You could change to a 2 or 3-bar map, but you are going to lose a lot of resolution doing so.

So just an update.

After long and careful consideration I went with the AEM. I had to send the unit back to AEM to update the fuel drivers and software. It was installed with the stock PCM to retain the remote door lock function. My flat spot is gone! It's very smooth all the way to redline. The final result is 1001rwhp at high boost and it's more then enough. It runs cooler too because the fan comes on earlier and I think the gas mileage is slightly better too.

I would post my dyno graph but can't figure out how to delete old pictures to make room for new ones.
