Cool Suit Question

Anyone here run track/race with a cool suit? My wife got me the club/race system for christmas and im realy looking forward to using it. Anyway, what I want to know is should I just install an on/off toggle or install a control switch that would increase/decrease the flow of water? I'm thinking just a simple on/off? :dunno:

Hell, why not make up a thermal switch that will kick it on and off at a certain temperature inside the suit. Thermocouples are cheap, and so are relays.

I use one. Worth it's weight in gold...IMO

I would recommend an on/off switch. Make it simple....:)

I remember the first time I used it. I was at Hallett and it was 103*...
First time I turned it on, I jumped out of the car. Thought I had an "accident" when that cold water went through the suit....:dunno:

One tip I learned... Freeze some water in "tupperware" type containers. The "block" ice will last longer, it's more convenient and cheaper than buying bags.

You can see the wire for the on/off switch alongside the tubing going over the seat. The power wire is attached to the tubing. Attaching to the tubing also makes it easier to find the switch with a harness and driving suit on. I run the water tubing through the pocket in my suit.
We got power from the battery, which is right there of course. Grounded the power at the battery and ran the power only to the switch and back.

We actually used a common extension chord. We used the receptical part of the extensin chord as the plug in for the pump and the wire for the switch. This way, the unit could be unplugged and removed easily.

Three of us actually bought our cool suits at Viper Days at Hallett. We bought the parts at Walmart and installed all three units before our first session....:D

My cool suit came with a timer so that it cycles on and off. The switch allows you to adjust the timing delay. This works great for longer sessions as it allows you to increase the rate more as the race progresses. If you have it going full blast all of the time, it will start to wane by the end of the race, when you need it most.

Late to the party here but to put it mildly, it is the single-most important driver comfort mod you can do.

Sitting on grid baking in the heat coming through the windshield and from the trans tunnel beside you....the beads of sweat forming on your helmet-enclosed scalp....the first couple of drops gliding down your face and your back starts to stick to the shirt .....

AND THEN

you reach for the switch, flip it up, count to two (slowly) and you're behind a dogsled on the Iditerod. Ahhhhhhh.

It really is a near-life experience.

last summer I was at Putnam Park, the pithole of heat in Indiana....98 degrees, you all know the drill...got in the belts, etc, sitting on grid and then the dreaded 'black flag'...yes my friends, we are gonna be sitting here for a LITTTLE bit:rolaugh: heat can just wear you OUT.

I've been driving and felt the beads of sweat all over my face, I learned very quickly to be selective about what kind of sunscreen I use at the track, 'cause otherwise it'll be burning in my eyes!
