Gen II re-sale seems the same if not more than Gen III

I have been calmly looking for a Viper and it seems that the Gen II value and sell prices are climbing. Even KBB seems to reflect this. A nice gen II and early gen III have seem to have the same value.

I wonder if Gen II'***** their bottom dollar last year, and are now on the up swing in value. I know supply and demand is in play; however, I think the Gen II Viper will be that body style that will be timeless, like the original Shelby Cobra.

Anyone else notice this trend??

Do not like the loose red wire in the engine bay...
Do not like the Eibach lowering springs...
Do not like the tinted windows...
Do not like the blacked wheels ... etc.

And, what about the HISTORY of the car? Number of owners, accidents?, ... AGE of the TIRES etc ... should be a MUST to say something important about such a car when seelingnot only "...and other various work done..."

The really nice cars ARE getting fewer and farther apart and will demand a premium. Will only get worst (or better if you are an owner/seller) as time goes on. JMHO

I don't think it will ever get as crazy as the old muscle cars as there are so many Vipers with very low miles that have been taken care of. IMO

Well i do see the amount of GTS available begining to get fewer and fewer. As they have gotten cheaper, a younger crowd is beginning to be able to afford them and so more are getting wrapped around telephone poles.

All i know is ill be hanging onto mine!

The 99 RT price of $59.9k is WAY out of line...and it isn't even a low mileage car! I wouldn't pay more than high $30's/low$40's for it. All that car will do is take up space and collect dust at that dealer.

The red GTS with black wheels is a great price...as long as the car is in good condition with good history. I like the look of red with blacked out accessories...but, agree, not a fan of tinted windows! If I was in the market for a GTS, that looks to be a well spent $36k!

I would have to agree with Big Deep to a point. We do seem to have finally seen a slowdown in the price drops on the Gen IIs and Gen Is. The issue could be partly due to the fact that the economy is improving , as well as the comment one other gentleman proposed -- there are getting to be fewer and fewer quality Vipers out there. I do politely disagree with the gentleman that said he firmly doubted that Vipers would reach the levels of the muscle cars in the past due to the numbers built. With the fact that there were abysmally low numbers of Snakes constructed over the years not sure this makes alot of sense. One highly regarded professional, Drew Alcazar ( owner of Russo and Steele ) believes in the fairly near future the Viper will be the next muscle car to live in the 100k range.

At present we have seen the Gen IIIs, IIs, and Is all level off and especially the IIs and IIIs have seen a minor uptick. This , of course , has helped on some trade ins, but more importantly there has been a bit of relief in the Banking Industry. Trying to get a loan on an older Viper has been a big hurdle to overcome for many, but there does seem to be a loosening up of late.

Hopefully with the discontinuation of the Viper for close to two years, we will see a stable market and many anticipate a gradual upswing for clean machines.

Forget Viper resale value. I feel sorry (well not really) for those Viper owners that are afraid to put miles on their Viper for fear of declining value. Screw that. These Vipers were meant to be driven and driven hard. Drive it, enjoy it and give a great big middle finger to the used car market in the process. You'll be much happier, I know I am.

Buy the Viper that makes YOU happy, generation doesn't matter. Just buy one, do it and drive the snot out of it.

IMHO , the majority of the Gen II crowd knew what body style they always wanted and will stick with their cars ,unless some major issue like sickness or loss of jobs force them to sell .This will create a shortage of the Gen II cars [ besides the fact some will get wrecked ] and they either keep their present value or even going up on the long run , mileage or not.
I know the Gen IV is a much better car than the Gen II , but wouldn't trade mine up to one with same mileage as mine for even trade either

True on the history of the car, but I have not done a VIN check so I have no idea how many owners or any other history.
But personally I think that car looks Fantastic, I like the wheels and blacked out look.
Will agree about the cup holder but at that price it would not put me off, I wish I had some spare cash and a bigger garage

He just hosted a photo shoot for all the SoCal guys in a professional studio.

Scott is first class, and very detail oriented.

I can attest to the rise in KBB's value numbers. A year ago I punched in the numbers on my GTS and KBB said the value was $28,500. Today with about a thousand more miles (81,000) KBB has it at $33,150.

I keep close track of the value of my '99 red RT/10 every year on Jan 1 with kbb.com. I put miles on it and it now has over 50,000. I always choose private party sale and good condition.
I bought it on Jun 15, 1999 for $68,500. Here is what I have on Jan 1 of each year (started doing this in 2001):
2001 - $56,000. 16825miles
2002 - $48,800. 24404mi
2003 - $43,300. 30912mi
2004 - $40,200. 34349mi
2005 - $34,000. 35578mi
2006 - $36,300. 40790mi
2007 - $36,300. 44145mi
2008 - $35,000. 47133 mi
2009 - $31,400. 49334mi
2010 - $30,000. 50252mi
2011 - $36,800. 50262mi (been in storage since I bought my '09 ACR)

You can see the big jump from Jan 1, 2010 to Jan 1 2011. I use kbb's numbers right from the web site. Hope this helps everybody see what I have seen as the trend.

I agree with Maxdaddy, I wish my house would turn around so I could have the ability to buy another Viper! I shopped around for almost two years before I pulled the trigger, I was specifically looking for an 02 GTS because it was the last year of the tilt hoods that was always the tell tale for a Viper for me anyway, I know the vettes had them also but that's another story. I kept watching the prices and finally found one for $35xxx.xx It was the color and interior I wanted and it was 65 miles from my house. I could have gotten one cheaper if I had waited another 3-4 months but I'm happy with my purchase and don't plan on selling it! I just wonder how well it will do in Alaska when we move back in a couple of years! I guess I could probably change my screen name to "Farthest North Viper", in the U.S. anyway!
