There are a lot of Venom Red '08's on eBay and AutoTrader. What is the opinion of that color? Is it sharp in person or just another maroon or dark red? Some photos look maroon, some brownish, hard to tell. What's the Viper Nation's opinion of this color?

I think most people don't like it. My wife LOVES the color. We just had seen one this past sunday and she said "When you buy me a Viper you can get me this color." could go either way. It would not be my first choice.

While it's a good looking color, especially in brighter light, it just doesn't fit the Viper's attitude....kind of like the tan covertible tops.

This is a f#*king Viper, not a Benz SL:rolaugh:

Unless it's right out in the sun, it always appears dark to me

Pictures do not do the car justice but in the sunlight when it is clean it is stunning.

Biggest reason that there are so many is that Dealers with little knowledge ordered a boatload of them, not realizing the difference between Venom Red and Viper Red. It ended up being the most common color for 2008, was discontinued in 09 ( except for one car that was done in an ACR if I remember correctly ) , so some popularity has come back due to it's one year status.

It was profound enough that Dealers called Dodge asking why they were sent the wrong color. With there being more Venom red cars than any other in 2008, there will be more for sale simply by supply.

That makes a lot of sense Bill...I knew it had to be something other than popularity

Looks much better in person. In fact, I have only seen a few pics that come close to showing the true color. IMO, when you mix black wheels with VR, it looks very aggressive.

Have to agree, Austin, as I was smitten by the aggressive look the Venom Red hints at with the black on an ACR. Course, I could be a bit biased , ha,ha.

Surprisingly, and likely due to the fact that the color was only a one year wonder, it has been gaining more popularity of late -- a common occurence with many Viper colors that have a limited run.

Overall , nice to have discussions on all kinds of colors since Dodge got aggressive over the last few years and we have not been limited to three colors a year.

The first time I saw Bill's car, I was blown away at how good the Venom Red looked with the black against it. It is a mean looking car.

venom red is a great color- it just got a bad rap due to what bill stated, so many out there, everyone kicked it to the curb, now after the beatdown, the people want to start to like it- too many followers and not enough leaders in that color back then. great color!!!

I drove 500 miles to go see a venom red vert and didnt buy it simply because of the color. Didnt like it at all and totally did not suit a Viper. In my opinion the worst of all colors for a Viper. Just not for me but like others have posted, some like it.

I've owned my Venom Red with silver stripes for 4 months now. It gets noticed, even in a crowd. Can't think of a similar color on other collectable cars. It can be a real eye catcher in person, but it does suffer from a similar fate as a '79 Trans AM. That red car would look orange under certain conditions and never photographed well. I have seen a lot of Venom Red photos that don't really look correct. It is metallic, and when you see it in person the light plays off of it as you move. Even slight movement. There is no movement in a photo, so you lose that dimension.

It may have been the most popular 08 color, but it was only offered one year and that makes it, overall, a bit rare.

For whatever reason, at the current time, plain Venom Red with no stripes nor ACR bring the least amount of money on resale.

As color is a personal preference, those who like the color can strike pretty good deals right now.

As that color us unlikely to be offered again soon, this is the best of times to pick one up.

The choice of accent stripes can totally tranform the looks of these cars.

Looks good to me! One of the other reasons so many were ordered (Correct me if I recall this incorrectly Bill) is that at the beginning of 08 production the only two other colors that could be ordered were GTS Blue and Snakeskin Green. No one knew what the hell Snakeskin Green was and everyone had just had a pretty good run at the reintroduction of GTS Blue in 06. So the dealers fell back on the Red, whatever it was. And most thought it was regular red.

While it does look better in person than photos, other colors look better and its the least popular color. I wouldn't however pass up a good deal because its venom red.

I think it looks stunning in the sun and pretty darn good out of it.
Adding some black or white touches wouldn't hurt either.

I may be wrong but I think Bob Carroll the former prez had a Venom Red/Black ACR?

I agree:

a venom red coupe needs white or silver stripes!

a convertible is fine with the black top!

Lee, is correct and Bob Carroll, while the Natl. VCA President did order a Venom Red ACR. This was never an option as the color was no longer available when the ACR came out, so Dodge opened up the order bank for 2 weeks and a few of us noticed. Roanoke ordered two Venom Red ACRs, Woodhouse ordered two, and two more were ordered seperately by other Dealers , along with the one done for Bob. This gave us a total of 7 ACRs ever done in this color, and with the one Tomball had done special in 2009, that evnetually bumped the total to 8. Bob Carroll's has a unique interior and a Venom Red driver's stripe. Mine happens to be the only " ********" done, and of course the one Tomball had done is the only 2009.

Color is subjective , but to say it is the least popular color , as one individual expressed is just a personal opinion. As noted the color seems to be gaining in popularity as folks who like it realize it was basically only done for one year. Personally , I have owned 7 Vipers and I have gotten more positive comments on this car than anyone I have ever owned -- it surprises even me, as I owned a 96 Blue white, 06 VCA Edition, 05 Yellow VCA Edition, but this one gets the most responses.

Price wise it reflects what we have seen with Vipers for years, and that is a simple supply/demand situation. Since alot of these were done in 08 they do seem to have more on the market, hence it affects value to a small degree. The same thing has happened to Viper Red over the years and even to other colors that many deem quite popular , just due to more on the market than usual.

Overall the situation comes down to what it always does with a Viper, if you like the color get it, as you are the main person you want to please.
