I would politely suggest you withhold your perception about the paint and the process until you get the chance to visit Prefix - which I am sure you will get to during one of the group tours. To suggest the CEO, or a CEO , or someone else did or didn't get the vehicles in Canada would be suggesting we believe everything we hear.

My opinion is based off the OP's statement and truthfully with the way everything has been headed it would not surprise me in the least. I'll leave my comments at that.

Same response to the paint as prior, they are not the first car company to work with these materials, this is not new technology, etc. Maybe new for Dodge, not new overall. This is some financial insight on the 14k markup though.

Chelsea,

Heard a different number, but I do have faith in your Canadian brothers ---- I do know from conversations that Ralph, Reid, Sergio are all proud of their Canadian roots, and that none have forgotten them. I also know that Canadian Viper owners are every bit as passionate as those of us in the States and with Chrysler #1 in Canada it may portend even better things to come!?

Hey Mike. Look around. Does it really have to be a Viper? I loved mine and was thinking about being buried in when my time came up. However I bought a fully loaded completely gone through 575M with fresh tires, wipers, fluids, 3000 miles for less money than a new viper or covette. No comparison in style,comfort,engineering... For that matter it could have been a slightly used Lambo,Aston,Maser . GTS Bruce

Seems like an overreaction to quit VCA over a color.

I don't think that statement tells the whole story. I would be quite pissed too if I had an order in for a rather expensive vehicle the day ordering was available to be told weeks, (months?) later that I can't have the vehicle I ordered because it is going to some big wig friend instead. The politics around it (if true) are enough to piss me off at the thought.

Well, regardless of the situation, the optics sure look bad. When you have a long standing VCA member who puts down an order (deposit) for the top tier machine (145k+?) and then gets the rug pulled out from under him (for reasons/anecdotal rumours that are true or not), you have to understand he's going to feel snubbed.

I know everyone at SRT is busy gearing up for the launch, but if I ran the show would get someone from management to CALL him to offer my sincerest apologies. I'm not sure who from SRT is looking at this thread, there may not be anyone since it must be pandemonium right now...it is situations like this that can break AND make SRT as a brand. VCA members are the best ambassadors and cheerleaders for SRT and Chrysler, and you cannot buy the kind of loyalty and community that longstanding VCA members have. Losing a VCA member in this fashion would be unacceptable to me if I was in SRT management.

Not to denigrate Bill P's position here, since he is representing himself and his dealership and the Viper brand in general (and does a great job at it), but someone who has some level of responsibility (whether it is Chrysler Canada or SRT in US) should be talking to Mike directly. Just my 2 cents. There may be nothing that can be done to mollify Mike, but it's still the right thing to do.

You're talking about a company who made a corporate decision to walk away from the brands Dodge, Chrysler, and Jeep and become SRT - knowing folks would still refer to them as Dodges, Chryslers, and Jeeps because that's what they are. With that in mind, why would you expect that a company with that frame of mind to call a person who wants to buy the company's flagship car?

Bill,
Help me understand, so if you couldn't buy a GenV in Canada why not order one in the states and drive it back? Unless there is some type of government restriction I don't know about? If I'm correct I don't understand the brouhaha about Canadian orders cancelled. Wouldn't it be the same distance between let's say where I'm at (Miami) and Toronto for delivery.

I have to agree with JoelW....SRT is really a performance division of Chrysler. Very few people are going to think that SRT is a separate car....they are upgrades of current vehicles of Chrysler and are sold in Chrysler dealerships. I had huge problems with my 1994 RT 10. Chrysler bought it back. A senior VP of Chrysler personally called me and discussed the situation. I told him I wanted one of the new GEN 2 cars. Out of nowhere a Reliable Truck shows up at my dealership unannounced and drops off a new GTS with my name on it....talk about service and a great response from a car company. SRT seems to have made a number of mis-steps. BillyP knows how dedicated I am to Vipers. However if it is true that the Stryker reds in Canada are being directed to personal friends of the CEO.....not a good move.:irked:

I agree that even if the rumor is the same old conspiracy theory type rumor, someone from SRT should step up and apologize for allowing a rumor like that to spread. It is hurtful to the company. We all know that people like to think and discuss such rumors and pretty soon you have pages of bad press written about something that none of the people involve have any knowledge of. It doesn't even matter if the 2 Stryker red Vipers are going to the people that put an order in first and are VCA members. The OP must be a more prominent VCA member than the other 2 and therefore should get the first car delivered.

With 800 orders in, if a few dozen are canceled, it isn't that much from someone at corporate to call and say sorry. This isn't a Corolla where 800 are sold in a half day.

But, people were going to get slighted no matter what. There were only enough build slots. Sad, but true.

Kenny,

I'm sure Bill will answer this more eloquently then I will, but yes there are restrictions that keep U.S. dealers from selling cars outside of the country, they carry huge fines if a dealer is caught. If you do not have a residence in the U.S. to register the car and live in that residence LOL we cannot sell the car to you.

Gentlemen and Ladies,

It is a simple Government situation, where one can not sell to Canada , nor can Canada sell to the US -- warranties are no longer honored on either side if sold into another Country. Now, this is not to be confused with a person who drives his American car into Canada , has a problem, and the warranty is covered - or vice versa for a Canadian owner. Sounds like double speak, but a vehicle sold out of either Country will not have coverage if one tries to get things rectified for a problem in the new Country it is registered in.

Essentially the car is approved for 50 State Certification and can only be sold in the US. In Canada it meets their certification ( regardless if it is the same), but if sold out of Canada there is no warranty coverage either. Someone will argue they bought a car in the US and got coverage in Canada or the other way around, and could have happened in the past, but not currently.
Dealers are fined, audits are prompted , and therefore Dealers are not willing to sell out of Country and take the consequences. If a second home is owned in the US, and the car is bought and registered ( say in Florida) ,it is not a problem - the car was sold, registered and taxed in the United States.

Lastly, everyone can have compassion for Mike, but to put it in perspective, we had 10 customers (most are VCA members ) I had to disappoint because they are not making but one Stryker Red per week. We know plenty of other Dealers are in the same boat. So Mike is not alone, but it is the consequence of SRT deciding, due to demand, to actually do a showcar color. We are all frustrated , but we seem to have forgotten this is a car that used to come in 3 colors. I do believe they will work to implement even more options in the future, but unfortunately this is a new car and they were not aware it would be so time consuming. Live and learn, but I would rather see them attempt and work to provide new and exciting options to us, than to go back to the old standard of very limited choice.

Lastly, I have a real problem with the fact that we jump to the conclusion that the cars in Canada are all spoken for due to a CEO sequestering them. Hmmmmm..................would that be Ralph ( SRT CEO ) , Sergio ( Chrysler/Fiat CEO), or Reid Bigland ( Dodge CEO), or maybe a CEO of a Canadian Division. If , so , yes it is frustrating, but alas it is no different than Jay Leno or someone else in the US getting a car that a member might get. I concur it is not really fair, but we should not jump to conclusions in my estimation, just because we believe a rumor - especially when no one can name the CEO or even verify the truth of the statement.

I also reached out to Mike to try and give him some advice and other thoughts on what he might do, but unfortunately I have not heard back from him -- but he may not be viewing the Forum after being disappointed. We all should have compassion for our fellow brothers who want special Vipers, we all love this car, but in life things do not always work out as we hope and it is saddening.

With all Due Respect Bill , This is NOT A Government Situation !!! It is Chrysler Red Tape !!! And Bad Policy !!!! I was in the same situation ,went to another manufacturer in the U.S of A , Brought the car back , Had full Warranty and Great Service from all levels of the Corporation !!! That said I bought 2 more vehicles from same manufacturer. The fines you speak of is Protectionism . Funny other manufacturers welcome a Sale , in my situation it promoted 3 more sales from another manufacturer . If Chrysler wants more Sales they should correct this Bad Policy . Friends of mine have seen how easy it was to bring a car back from the U.S. ,From friendly manufacturers and have done the same . This equates to a lot more lost Sales for Chrysler . Something so SIMPLE ,Shouldn't be So Difficult !!! IMO . :omg:

This is true, it is protectionism and NOT a government policy. The reason on why they want to do this is because of shenanigans like this: 2013 Porsche 911, CAD 96k, USD 82k.

The manufacturers are trying to keep US cars from entering Canada because the profits in Canada can be extremely high, and the dealer network has a lot of pull.

The dealers have made the manufacturers play the incompatibility game by charging an arm and a leg for metric dash clusters, daytime running lights but all of those were gotten around with stickers and third party mods. Also things like a recall clearance letter are needed to show the vehicle has been kept up to date to allow it into Canada, these are only available from the dealer...guess what, MB and BMW US dealers cannot print off a valid recall clearance letters for Canadians, and the Canadian ones will do it and charge you $500 (since rescinded because of the uproar).

Now Chrysler is 'better' because there is little price disparity between US and CAD SRP, but the warranty issue is just a big protectionist racket that the manufacturers and the dealers are using to prop up their Canadian sales. It's not very becoming and as long as Canadians are willing to get hosed this situation will likely not change. But the government has nothing to do with it.

Here is the current list of how it all shakes down by company to bring a US car into Canada. Notice how each company has their own policy, so it is not any government requirement for Canadians to get screwed:
Acura
No Warranty Coverage

Audi
Canadian warranty coverage.

BMW
Warranty coverage, but free scheduled service, standard in Canada, will not be offered on cars imported from the United States. Full maintenance package that is included as part of U.S. sales is not extended to Canada. All modifications required to make cars conform to Canadian standards must be done by an authorized BMW dealer in Canada

Chrysler
Warranties of vehicles purchased in the United States will not be valid in Canada, unless a customer moves to Canada and gets approval by Chrysler Canada.
No Warranty Coverage

Ford
U.S. warranty of 3 years/36,000 miles bumper-to-bumper and five years/60,000 miles on powertrain will apply.

General Motors
The owner of a new GM car imported from the U.S. must wait until after 12,000 km and six months. If importing a GM vehicle into Canada from the US, owners call GM Vehicle Vintage Services group to obtain a Recall Clearance letter. Cost of the clearance is: $270. Call 1-888-467-6853 (toll free) or 1-905-440-7689 (outside Canada)
Delayed Warranty Coverage

Hyundai
The Hyundai warranty program applies only to Hyundai vehicles manufactured to Canadian specifications and distributed by authorized Canadian Hyundai dealers.
No Warranty Coverage

Infiniti
New U.S. market Infiniti cars must first be registered in the U.S. for the warranty to apply. If the car is sold within six months of the original purchase, the warranty becomes void.
Delayed Warranty Coverage

Mazda
The U.S. warranty on the vehicle will be honoured in Canada.
Warranty Coverage

Mercedes-Benz
Car must be modified to meet Canadian specs by a Mercedes-Benz Canada dealer and certified that standards are met. Mercedes-Benz Canada then issues a Letter of Compliance, and the same 4 year/80,000 km warranty as Canadian market cars. There is no corrosion warranty and no extended warranty is available. U.S. market cars do not get the two year/40,000 km wear and tear coverage for brake pads and rotors as well as lightbulbs Canadian market vehicles receive. Roadside assistance is also not provided for U.S. market cars.
No Corrosion Coverage

Subaru
The car must either be returned to the U.S. for warranty repairs, or the owner can have the car repaired by a Subaru dealer in Canada, pay for it in full, and submit the bill to Subaru U.S. for re-imbursement. Keep in mind, this is basically a “gentlemen’s agreement” and Subaru USA can change its policy at anytime.
Limited Warranty Coverage

Toyota-Lexus
Will honour U.S. warranty.
Warranty Coverage

Volkswagen
No warranty coverage on 2009 and later models.

Canadians pay more than Americans for Canadian-made vehicles

...a resident in Alliston, Ont., where the Acura MDX is made, would pay $52,690 based on the suggested retail price, while in the U.S. the vehicle's suggested price is $43,030...

Ottawa sued over car import rules
GREG KEENAN
From Thursday's Globe and Mail
February 28, 2008 at 1:48 AM EST

Two vehicle leasing companies have launched a class-action lawsuit on cross-border vehicle shopping with a new twist, alleging Transport Canada and the Canada Border Services Agency were participants in a conspiracy to keep vehicle prices high.

The two arms of the government have been named along with BMW Canada Inc., Mercedes-Benz Canada Inc. and Mercedes-Benz USA LLC in a lawsuit that alleges actions they required of people or companies trying to import U.S. vehicles into Canada reduced competition and enabled prices of vehicles sold here to be 20 per cent to 35 per cent higher than similar U.S. models.

The auto makers, Transport Canada and the CBSA imposed restrictions on vehicle importers that created additional fees and charges, said a statement of claim filed with the Ontario Superior Court.
...
BMW Canada's website says importers require a letter of admissibility from the company that costs $350. The fee for a letter saying the vehicle has been repaired under any recall orders is $500.
