'08 Bellanger Exhaust Sound

I've been asking privately, but I'd like to hear from '08 owners how they like the sound of their Bellanger exhaust.

My greatest concern is that a 2 hour drive with the top down consistently turns into a headache. I guess I don't mind it louder when I'm "on it", but when I'm turning 2G RPM in comfortable cruise mode and trying to hear some tunes....does it tend to be too much or is it relatively "calm"?

I've had some serious systems on former cars and found that while they are great fun at first cruising the avenue or at a car show, they get tiresome REAL FAST on a long cruise.

So what do you folks think? I'd hate to spend all sorts of cash and then have to take this all back in 6 months....with a raging headache.

I was somewhat concerned about drone/loudness as well but went for it and so far I've been quite satisfied. Definitely has a purposeful menecing tone that's loud but not intolerable and it sure provides for a good bit more midrange punch.

Perhaps a dumb question: Would a cruising '08 not sound very much like a Gen 3? I am asking this 'coz I too have grown tired of loud "cruise" exhausts, and am looking for a good "compromise" exhaust.

I suppose the addition of the belanger headers makes little/no sound difference?

The '08 has no crossover so the system is slightly different. I'd imagine the same set-up on an '03 would be slightly less loud. Different cam too which would influence sound. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The SRT10 Top Down, has no reflective surfaces like the Coupe. So a coupe will sound louder, and so will the SRT10 with top UP.

The Belangers have a deeper tone due to the metallurgy: Stainless is a higher pitch than Alumanized.

Adding Belangers to ANY non-headered Viper will make it louder, even if you add Headers to existing HiFlows and cat-back. More flow = more sound volume.

I also sent you some customer feedback...

Sounds no different than a gen3, or a UPS truck:omg:
Most of the time Gen3 owners think people are rushing out of their houses to get a look at their Viper comming down the street, when in fact they've been waiting all day for the slow ass UPS guy to deliver something they've been waiting for.:lmao:

Funny.:)I have the entire system from JON. I like the sound. Sometimes a little loud in spots. I've learned where they are, and compensate, with a little more gas or a little less.Glad I did the whole package.

I thought my new full Bellanger system was very loud on my 06' Coupe for about the first 100 miles. After that I got use to it and absoluley love it. It took a while to 'break in", either the exhaust or my ears. :) My wife even likes the sound now and she likes NOTHING loud. Definitely the best addition I made: Headers, cats and exhaust with no cross over all Bellanger.

In my 06' Coupe with the windows up and in 6th at 80 mph, I can barely hear it. Quiet as a clam. When I walk on it, you definitely hear it and it sounds exotic. Stock Viper exhaust sounds like it was tuned by Briggs and Straton or any other lawnmower company. I have been a Borla guy my whole life but wanted the best for my Viper, so I jumped up to Bellanger. You will not be disappointed, but I am speaking from an 06' Coupe point of view. Don't think the 08' would be too different though.

Here are some video/sound clips from my 08 with the full Belanger exhaust/header system:

I have been very pleased with the Belanger system. To my ear, the sound is deeper, louder but just amazing. Hope this helps.

I'm personally sensitive to drones and have NOT noticed one in my time spent in a car with Belangers ... in fact I get a full outright belly laugh of pure delight in starts and when coming to a stop/slowing down. The crackle/pop as it 'exhales' so to speak when slowing down is awesome. The roar as it fills it system with air gives an auditory appropriate accompanyment for the acceleration that is occuring. When doing neither - doesn't seem to be too much of a bother - particularl with the windows up in a coupe. I did also notice the low end power that is added - as a driver or passenger. It actually feels more powerful than a previous supercharged 06 - of course top power technically is not - but the enjoyment of power in the lower end of the curve is something that is truly something to put a big grin on your face imho.

(Sidenote: I have had an exhaust system in a C5 vette that did drone and absolutely hated it so I have been there before).

Drive on! :drive:

First link didnt work :(. I do like the sound from the inside, very nice. I hope my 2004 Corsa w/ RT High flow cats sounds pretty similar, no headers though. Do you get more of the note from the actual headers? If so that may have to be a mod I will have to do next. Just wondering the difference between just the exhaust change and one with the headers also.

Thanks for the responses. This is like buying speakers! LOL Very hard to determine actual relative volume on a computer system, but I sure do like the tone!

I agree; between my cheap camcorder and the small speakers on a computer, the youtube videos don;t fully convey the "surround" sound experience of the Belangers or the stock system for that matter. Nevertheless, for what it's worth, I did record the stock system on the car before installing the Belanger system:

YouTube - 2008 Viper Stock Exhaust Sound Part 2

YouTube - 2008 Dodge Viper Stock Header and Exhaust Sound

On the computer, the sound difference seems fairly subtly to my ears. In the real world, the difference is significant.

You also asked a question about long-distance cruising with the Belangers. Just out of curiousity I have shifted to both 5th and 6th gears while cruising at highway speeds of 75-80 mph and the car goes almost completely silent. It's actually kind of eerie.

Thanks Rich. I actually found your oe video and was sitting in my office this AM listening to both immediately after the other. Needless to say, a few of my employees think I have some serious mental illness.

That's great to know about cruising. As I mentioned, I can deal with "obnoxious" for a bit, but not for hours on a highway. If it's relatively quiet in that 5th gear 70 mph region, then I've got far less anxiety about this. Appreciate your input! :2tu: Not to mention your videos!

Hi Brenden...our Corsa Track Exhaust with hi-flow cats and B&B Stepped Headers was AWESOME-sounding. So, NOT sure if the headers make THAT much more noise, but yeah, the *popping* on decel was music to my ears~! (The '08 Exhaust is fine for us, it's plenty loud enough...no changes)....juli

I will not mind that decel popping noise thats for sure. I just know I have heard that the
Headers to give it more noise but am curious to how much. I will search around some threads, I think ILSMOG had some posted somewhere. Sorry for hijacking the thread but it is about exhaust ;)

I hear that on the 08, there really isnt anything you need to do to that beauty, it is perfect stock. I love the new avatar. Yeah I cannot wait to get home finally. Just 30 more days, but who's counting :2tu:

Oh I know who is counting the days!!! (Your new WIFE!!! :D) Yes, the '08 Exhaust is fine the way it is, no changes to be made to that. We LOVED the decel popping...the '08 does it, but it's not AS prevalent. I DO need to get a better picture in the avatar though, as it's a vert, and it looks like a COUPE in the pic! :omg: lol
Stay Safe Brenden~~~:usa::usa::usa: I am also counting down the days:2tu:~~~juli

Brenden;

Whenever you do finally get home, give me a call and you can come over and listen to my full Bellanger system. I also want to see what my ole mounts went into. That lil black vert.

Hey Rick, haven't talked to you in a bit. Anyway I took a job in Hawaii, so I will be home in Colorado for about 6 days and then will be heading to Hawaii. Right now since the car is already at DC Performance the car will be going straight from there to Hawaii instead of paying to ship it to CO then back to LA to HI. I would like to stop by and see your Viper thats for sure and would love to listen to the Bellanger System. I just will be without my Viper at that time :(

The 08 system is awesome. Mine is finally starting to open up, so I'm getting the decel pops that I love. The amount of flow out of these will do more than raise a pant leg, I blow all the leaves and dirt off my driveway just by backing out, it's cool. No drone, and sounds like a viper should. UPS truck my *ss
