Re: Update on Tail Of The Dragon (U.S.129) Closure

Maybe have lunch and dinner there on a Friday and Saturday just so we can sell all of the girls? :D

I'm all for the weekend meet, but I don't think the girls are for sale. I know because I've inquired about a few of them before :rolaugh::D

We need to get a rough idea how many are actually going to the drag strip on Sunday. And who will be participating or not. We may also have to charge a small fee (maybe $10-$20) to share the expense with the club.

So, who all is in???:2tu:

Won't be racing, but I'll try to attend at least a little bit before heading back home

I intend to drive down and shake a few hands over the weekend but the drag strip is out for me... It's a long ride from my area and I'll be heading north on Sunday....

From here, it's a 9 hour drive either way on the hwy... I take two days each way and usually drive the BR Parkway..... (a bit slow perhaps but I've been known to push it on occasion:drive:).

Yes, good news! We currently can drive from the North Carolina side back to Tennessee. Matt Chambers and I currently suggest this itinerary:
Friday: ******* Barrel Knoxville to Pigeon Forge via 321 to Gatlinburg to Newfound Gap to Cherokee to Dragon Back To Pigeon Forge/Shuler Inn.
Saturday: Still in planning stages - but it'll be a doozy.
Sunday: Matt has secured 411 drag strip for us - getting an 'official' form to so-state before post definite info. However we need to ante up 400.00 check to secure the strip from 12p to 4p Sunday. I'll know further details this evening and will get with Chip before posting.

I think this year is going to be a blast - just hope you ALL can make it that did so last year AND wish Maurice could join us again - maybe rent a VIPER from Ringgold??:drive:

Chip - is it time for a dedicated 'Tail Of The Dragon 2010' thread? Or am I just being too detail oriented (I noticed that even though I started the thread, that I cannot rename it)?? ;)

Bring Chad, he needs a friend. You two should have fun in the Jacuzzi together..........

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

I'm thinking some of us Jawga people will get a cabin like we did last time (yes they have jacuzzis as well). It'll be more impressive to whatever girl I find on Craigslist to go with me :lmao:

Not a bad idea on the cabin. I would be willing to go in on one if it had some extra parking area.

Last year, 4 of us from GA rented a 3 bedroom cabin in Pigeon Forge. We were only 2-3 miles from the host hotel. When we split it, it was cheaper than the hotel room and we had covered parking (under the cabin), jacuzzi, full kitchen, and we were on a creek. I ended up being the one sleeping on the sofa :D

I know another group of people also rented a cabin in another part of town.

Not a bad idea on the cabin. I would be willing to go in on one if it had some extra parking area.

I'm gonna call Jerry today and ask him to book the cabin for us. He stays there a few times a year. If we need a 4th, I'll let you know.

There's so much info here already, we can just leave it here. Maybe the mods can change the thread title :dunno:? AL/TN Tail of the Dragon '10 :dunno:

I emailed this info to the FL Chapter Prez too. Hopefully we will see over 50 cars this year. :2tu::2tu:

Can someone get this to John Slaughter(NC/SC Prez)?

Yes !!
If you don't have one then you could borrow one. If you are going to buy one make sure to get the latest snell rating. There used to be some online sellers that had reasonable pricing.

Ok well I might just buy one. Around what price should I expect to pay for a good one? I mean it is my brain so I should cover it up with something good right? ha

Probably any Snell rating will be fine in a "SA" or "M" SA = auto M = motorcycle
Here is a link, read up on Snell and how good (or bad) a "DOT" rating is. Home

I believe a buddy of mine bought from the link below some years back with good service. He had to do an exchange because of sizing issues.

Here is a basic open face with a M2005 rating $99 shipped is probably a decent price for a snell helmet.
Open Face Pyrotect M2005 Open Face - Black | Helmet City

Mine are M and full faced because they came with various motorcycles. An open face has better visibility.

Also, Summit Racing sells the GForce helmets for pretty good prices, AND ship very fast. G-FORCE Force 1 Helmets - SummitRacing.com

Will the GForce helmets work for a motorcycle helmet too? I am restoring a 1968 Moto Guzzi and will need one once I get it done. Might as well get one with will work for both...

Also a SA2005 or a M2005 will work correct? I don't want to get one that is not the correct rating for drag racing.
