Nitrous injection was the cheapo fix for this on my old Z28. Fun, but I wouldn't do it on a Viper. Maybe switch to a twin-turbo or Paxton Gen III? It is amazing how many Vipers have been boosted, relative to the small number of cars sold. I guess if you're the type of guy that can't get enough HP and are willing to pay for that, sky is the limit. Recently met a guy in town here with a twin-turbo 560 cubic inch Chevy Bel Air. Dynoed at over 1500 HP on race gas with race-level boost pressure, but it's a street-driven machine. Lot of money in that car (looked good, too), and the re-engineering of every driveline and frame detail to handle that power makes for a heckuva project.

+1 on the gear chage, I did 3:55 first and it made a big big diference , now I have 3:73 and love them . Doing the motor mounts, shifter and gears( I recomend 3:73 for a gen 3) it made the car feel like it had 75 extra hp.

Stock Gen 3's are fast....by 2003 standards. Paxton is the best bang for the buck solution here, easy 625-650 rwhp out of the box without even changing the pulley.

What brand did you get and did you do it yourself?

Pretty fast even by today's standards! I can't use all my Gen 3's power now. I guess I'm just getting old.....!

.C'MON GEORGE: GOT GEARS? GET GEARS! Poor Man's Supercharger

Little money, lottsa acceleration, and better braking.

Gears, We are talking 10% $$ of a blower package and tuning.
Gears We are talking 30% of the $$ of headers/exhaust.

Can you give up driving above 165 mph? How many minutes in your life were you gonna do that anyway? GET GEARS!

{But do NOT get 3:54..... I am an A.R.P. and those GM gears will fit your car but are NOT as strong and durable as 3:55s. Do 3:73 or 3:55, your planned mods matter.}

Bought my 3:73's from Jon and am very happy with them. If I decide down the road to put a Paxton on the car I will go back to 3:55's or back to stock, but for a bolt on Gen III 3:73's are great.

It already has 3:33s in it, so I would suppose that 3:55 would not be a big enough difference, therefore 3:73 would be best bang for the buck I would imagine. Never going to drive anywhere near 165... What I like is 0-120. I will be in touch if I decide on any of these mods. Thanks Jon, and thanks to the others for suggestions.

I guess I am used to the 2 Gen II's I had that would burnout in gears 1-3 and this Gen III won't. Yes, and I did have new tires on the other cars too. I guess the Gen III hooks up better.

Thanks, but I did too much to mine this year to start over with another car. (Roll-bars, seats, stripe, rear fascia black, spoiler, dash painted, emblems changed, etc.) I would want to do those things to another silver car. I stand a better chance at finding a little money to change the gears and open up the exhaust and intake a little. Thanks.

Yah your car does look great....! do the paxton if you can, you wont regret, plenty of power for the street, if not the 3:55 gears are a sure thing. good luck with your quest.
