convert or coupe

I am attempting to purchase a '03m-'06. I see a lot of convertibles and was wondering about interiors noise compared to the coupe....any suggestions or comments?

I've had both, and while its a little noiser in the Vert, you'll find the difference to be neglible because the Viper is just a loud car all around.

Ok. I should qualify that I just sold a C5 Coupe with long tube headers, big cam and Borla exhaust....it was loud....I like loud......ok not open header loud (for a weekend driver)....

I sold my C5 Z06 after driving/owning a 03 viper. You are going in the right direction. I have a convertible and trading for a hard top. Its just prefrence for me. I have not drove a coupe yet. I think all 03's are convertible. I stand to be corrected. I am new at this .

Good responses guys......I like the coupes just a little more; uh...then again, maybe not.....looking for something to tip the balance...the Shelby quote was cool..

If you are looking at a Gen III, 2003-2006 the only year the coupe was offered would have been the 2006 model year. That alone will mean a higher price of admission and higher resale. So once you decide, if it's for a coupe look at '06 only.

The only convertible I have owned was my Crossfire SRT-6. It was enjoyable to have on nice days, but having a Viper coupe I don't really miss it ;)

I am a coupe guy, but would "settle" for a convertible if the price is right Bob!

I went from a 01 coupe ACR to a 04 vert. I agree with Paul H. Coupes look better but I'm having a lot of fun with the vert. If I could have any viper I think the vert ACR would be it for me. Good luck you really can't go wrong either way! Steve

Best of both worlds... buy a vert and get a removable hard top!

A little known feature of the Vert, is that it is mostly hard surface.

The area over the driver is solid and the rear window area is solid. Only the bendy parts are soft.

The top is so taught when fastened that it does not balloon or flutter, not even a little bit.

Windows in the Gen III go up into the top channel, so as not to pull out at extreme speed..

Single release/latch handle is easy to reach from the drivers seat. Easy Peasy up and down.

I like the look of the Vert better. And if its just a weekend car and fun toy. The very first day that the temp is perfect and the sun is shining if you buy a coupe you will be wishing you had the vert. But the coupe looks more like a race car

I never drive mine with the top up. IMO, a big part of the total viper visceral experience. And no toup, or bald head to worry about...:lmao: Sorry DP Viper, I couldn't resist!!!:lmao:

I've never been a huge convertible fan, but after having my 04 for several months now it's really grown on me. I have t tops and a removeable rear window in my old C3 Vette that's nice, but just not the same. Putting them in and out is a big hassle, dropping the top in the Viper takes less than a minute. I have noticed a little flutter and beating with the top very rarely, but for the most part I've been really surprised. It seals up nice and has stayed pretty quiet, so I'm definitely happy with it. Visibility is pretty crab with the top up though, not that it's probably a whole lot better in the coupe. The rear deck on the car is just so high.

I just sold my 03 last week and purchased a 06 coupe. Here are a couple thing to think about.

-Its way easier to get in and out of a convert with the top down
-you have to open trunk to lower/raise soft top. ***** if you are in the south with surprise rain showers
-there is some more interior noise with the vert, but not enough to make a diference
-the trunk ***** in the vert
-only way in the truck of a vert is with key or fob (I learned this the hard way)
-a nice vert can be had for around 40K, and a nice coupe for around 50K


In a perfect world, get the vert with the coupe rear end conversion. You get the top down experience, but with the sweet looks of a coupe.

What as the cost on the top? I love my vert, but love the coupe look. How easy to install and remove?

All my friends laughed at me because I wanted a vert. Owned 2 gen 3s and had a RT/10.

I'd say I enjoy the vert experience more. There are days where I am lazy and don't want to put the top down, but it's NICE knowing that you can. There are just TOO many gorgeous days to not drop the top down and just go out and enjoy the cruise.

A coupe should be a little lighter and have less noise, but hell, mine has a blower and 3" catless exhaust anyways. Love to hear that rumble.

You won't be disappointed going from a vette to a viper. You are going to have so much more fun with it. Downside is mods are not as abundant and cost probably 3x as much :)

Yes, the coupe rear is nicer looking.

Can't tell you about the sound in the coupe, but the sound in the vert is louder with the top up and quieter with the top down. At highway speeds with the top down, roll up the windows to cut wind noise and your fine. Either way, if you want to talk to a passanger or listen to the radio you'll need to do it at an increased volume level. lol

Also, visablity when backing is very poor with the top up.

Thanks, I looked at a 2003 convertible today....18k, very nice.....a small amount of white smoke when started....it had been sitting a while...I think I can get it for $42k...is the some common problem I should look for?

Be sure windows go up and down properly. I have a 03 vert I am trading in tomorrow. You may want to look at it if you are near south Dakota.
It will be at billion automotive.
