Creaking dashboard

I am owning a 98 RT/10 since 2012. I am well aware of the overall build quality compared to today's standards and the pressure, the Viper Team was under at the time to develop a production car. Having said that, I do accept some noises, rattles and creaks here and there.

However, there is one thing, which I was always wondering about, if it can be improved (let alone resolved): the creaks coming from the dashboard. I noticed, that these noises are amplified by rising ambient temperature. In colder months, the noises are acceptable to me. But later in spring and summer, of course, they reach a level that is quite annoying to me. The worse the road condition is the louder these creaks get.

I thought about removing the dash and install some kind of noise cancelling foam or similar as the creaks seem to be generated by moving/rubbing plastic parts such as all the different panels touching the dashboard etc.

Do you guys also experience this and did you ever tackle this (and if so, how exactly)?

Thanks!

I went after my gen 3 in a similar fashion to what you are talking about. I've noticed some higher end cars will do a lining on the edges of parts to help mitigate issues at joints. I tried to identify as many points as I could on my car and I just cut some plain craft felt and used double sided tape to try to soften those joints. I think I had some success, though I think a lot of my issue now is that my plastic is cracking in a lot of different places, so it's just not holding as tight as it used to. I've started trying to plastic weld and reinforce a lot of the broken stuff I find with some aluminum window screen, which has also helped. It could be that over the years some of your parts have just loosened up, which allows them to move around more. That would make sense with the temperature change issue as well.

Dodge sold a kit to fix these creaks and cracks back in the day. On your car, remove the dash panel (easy, once the knee blockers and center panel are out). It just
pops out. look for rub marks and such. Put some felt on the attachment pins and pop it back in. Some silicone spray on the edges of the bottom panels helps as well.

Thanks to both of you for your tips! I guess I will try that in the not so distant future...:D
