After market exhausts and Laguna Seca sound Limits

I ran Laguna Seca last February in my Z28 during a Tracquest event. It was a well run 2 day event, and they will be doing the same thing on February 7th and 8th 2002. I'm thinking of going in my Viper this time. Anybody else interested? I just checked the Tracquest web site and the sound...

After market exhausts and Laguna Seca sound Limits

I just installed a CORSA 3 inch system on my 99 GTS and am considering driving to Laguna Seca for a track day. I have heard that some (Borla specifically) after market Viper exhausts are too loud at Laguna Seca. I believe the normal sound limit on track days is 90 DB, however may be raised to...

Vipers Exempt From State Emissions at Bel Air, MD

Wow. Somehow I can't imagine the same thing happening here in Oregon. I forget the exact rules, but cars between certain ages get the dyno tests. New cars get the standard tailpipe test. There's no way I'd get a waiver if my Viper wouldn't work on the dyno. I'd at least have to do the tail...

Do i need to lose the cat if i install the corsa exhaust?? nt

Hmmm, if you are asking whether the Corsa systems will work with catalytic converters, the answer is yes. They are 'cat back' systems that bolt right on to the end of the cat and replace the stock mufflers and pipes. Jim

    Brakes (Mov'it)?

Re: Brakes (Mov\'it)? Hi Slow, I don't have experience with the Mov'it system, but did install the Stoptech system on my 99 GTS. I've run a few track days with the stock brakes, stock brakes with Porterfields, and the Stoptechs with Axis Ultimates. I'll be trying Pagid Oranges at the PIR...

Viper saved my life - literally

Mike, I'm sorry to hear about the accident. I'd be pretty upset myself, and probably too mad at the guy in the Pickup for my own good. Hang in there with getting the insurance settled and finding a new Viper. That must have been a wild ride... Jim

OK, installed the 3" Corsa, but

Re: OK, installed the 3\" Corsa, but I also have just finished installing the 3 inch Corsa system. I was removing a 2.5 inch Corsa system that was installed by a dealer. Since I was charged about $500 for first in install, I decided to do the 3 inch myself. I have quite a few hours into the...

Thinking about racing (yes, racing) the Viper - Advice?

I have a friend who races his ITE class Z28. He has had numerous off course excursions and associated contact with solid objects. It takes an extra level of psychic energy to run wheel to wheel with other cars/drivers. He’s a pretty fast driver. I don't have numbers, but it has been quite...

911 Turbo owner new to board & looking into Vipers

I can use our GTS for all my personal transportation, but we still need a more utilitarian car for some duties. We also have a Z06, which we use when we don't want all the attention the Viper attracts. The two cars are fine for general use, with positive and negative features for both cars...

    Cream Puff? Help me...

Gary, a 348 Challange car sounds like a great compliment your Viper. What are the differences between a 'Challange' car and a regular 348? Would you use that as a track car? My wife and I have a Z06 that we use for daily driving and will keep stock. The Viper is progressing more towards a...

    Gorgeous Tips (Corsa)

I just got done wrestling my 3 inch CORSA system into place, and am going to wait until tomorrow to tighten everything up. My car is up on the shortest adjustment of jack stands which is only about a foot, and it seems to have worked fine. I am taking off a 2.5 inch CORSA system to install the...

new viper here tomorrow, nervous @ driving-any tips?

I think you will both enjoy owning and driving the car. Vipers have lots of performance, but are not as difficult to drive as some of the car magazines say. Just take it easy at first, and you will be fine. Have fun! Jim

Viper vs Porshe 911 TT in quarter

I'm really not sure what 'league' you are talking about. The Z06 is a world class car at a great price. My wife and I have a 99 Viper GTS and an 01 Z06, and they are both great cars. I happen to prefer the Viper, but the Z06 is fast, fun, and comfortable. On a similar note, quoting from...

    Viper...or ?

Brand means almost nothing too me. When I want a new car, I shop around, and I buy the one I like. I read the road tests to get an idea of performance, but the opinions of the editors mean very little. I just do not understand the guys who have owned nothing but Porsches, or BMWs, or Dodges...

    Went Z06 window shopping today...

I'm another one of those Viper owners (99 GTS) who also bought a Z06. We use the Z06 more for daily driving, and the Viper for fun. The Vipers slowly getting modified for track use, but we'll keep the Z06 stock. Whichever car I'm driving at the time is the one I like 'best'. The Viper gets...

    Corsa's New Exhaust - LIVE!

Re: Corsa\'s New Exhaust - LIVE! I'll be replacing my Corsa 2.5 inch system with the new 3 inch system as soon as it arrives. The resonance is completely gone with the 2.5 inch system. I hope I can have it all, and get added horsepower without any resonance. Jim

    Viper = Too Heavy?

What is the official curb weight of the new Viper? I was really hoping for around 3200 pounds. The Z06 is light, and dimensionally bigger then the Viper, so it seems like even with the big block, that the weight could be reduced to around 3200. My GTS weighed in at 3450, and our Z06 at 3150...

Running Hoosier slicks - at the theater...

I saw a GTS on Hoosiers parked in front of a Boston Market in San Jose awhile back, I hope he was on his way home from the track. Those tires don't ride too well on the street, not to mention the shower of road debris that flys all over the place from the super sticky tires. Jim

ride height..should I cut springs or buy springs?

Cutting the springs will make them stiffer, and there is probably a formula (any engineers out there?) you can use to determine how much stiffer, depending on how much you shorten them. Aftermarket springs are (theoretically) designed to provide a proportional increase in spring rates front and...

Pseudo-Intrepids, LMP Reynards. LETS RACE VIPERS!

Sorry, while I think Trans Am is fun racing to watch. I just can't get excited about a V8 powered tube frame Viper look alike race car. I'm much more interested in SCCA T1 Viper racing then I am in the Trans Am 'Viper'. If Dodge/ORECA doesn't make a new ALMS GTS entry out of the new Viper it...

Best Bra for Trips and Tracks?

I bought a Mopar bra and used it for my trip from Portland to Thunderhill. It was more trouble then it was worth. I took it off when I arrived at T-hill and haven't used it since. Jim

How many of you own a C5 too?

Hi Steve. I bought a 99 GTS new about a year and a half ago and my wife and I took delivery of an 01 Z06 about two months ago. I don't know about C5 problem areas because this is our first Corvette. Jim

Purner wheels, Stoptech brakes and Sebring

I need to chime in on the clean brake fluid issue. I have the 'standard' 13 inch Stoptech two piece rotors and 4 piston calipers. I'm using Axis Ultimate pads and Motul 600. After about 1000 street miles and one track day, the brake fluid was 'dirty' enough that I had to pump about half a...
