All these posts about cream puffs got me worried.

Should I not get a 2001 then? ;)

Actually, I am sure Ron@SVSi or John@LPE can take away the cream, right?

Its just an 'among friends' joke about the 'softer' camshaft in 2000-'01 Vipers vs 1996-97 Vipers and 98-99 Vipers.

That SlowC5 is the real puff, right ?!

yup......those guys can de-puff a Puffin !!

Get a 2001. I went from a C5 to a 2001 and I bought a damaged one that I redid the body on. As for the 2001, you get antilock brakes. It being a cream puff? I have not seen any solid proof where 2 are lined up and drag the .25 mile or to 100. I think people just like talking trash because of a "milder" cam. Whatever that means. I drove a 97 before the 2001 and to be honest with you it felt *****. The HP is rated the same. My father in law works from Diamler/Chysler and he claims emmisions was tightening down on the gen II vipers. Oh well. I guess I drive a creme puff. All the cool colors are in GEN II models anyway. most people dont plan on leaving theirs stock so whats the big deal. The only thing I CAN attest to are the plastic impellers on the water pump but HEY with a 2001 you have a warranty. I think it would be scary to buy a 4 year old chrysler product with no warranty. They arent exactly known for their customer service. Whatever you do though, get a GTS.

Get the gen 2. ABS is a good thing.

Gary Lamont,

Yes, the real reason that I am considering the 2001 or 2002 is because of ABS. I would like to think that I am a good enough driver not to need it, but I don't think I am. Especially when I have been spoiled by the C5.

I will definitely be keeping my SlowC5... Gotta have a daily driver, ya know... ;)

Another thing. The viper makes an excellent daily driver. I plan to get something super exotic sometime and keep the viper as a driver. The only difference in driveability are the pedals, giant hood and the rut grabbing tires. You may want to hold out until the 2003 and we'll see who's the cream puff.

Good luck.

I was toying with the idea of keeping the C5 but the cars are too much alike that I dont think I would have ever driven the C5 with both of them in the garage. So I have a 4x4 and a Viper.

and am looking at 348 challenge cars.

ABS is good. Warranty is good. Plus the wheels are better on the new ones.

Good luck,

Cream puff

Gary, a 348 Challange car sounds like a great compliment your Viper. What are the differences between a 'Challange' car and a regular 348? Would you use that as a track car?

My wife and I have a Z06 that we use for daily driving and will keep stock. The Viper is progressing more towards a track car, although it can cetainly be used for regular duties.

I've thought that an 83 or 84 308 Quattrovalve would be a fun contrast to the Viper. It's not as fast, but I think they are really cool cars. I also have a soft spot in my heart for 206/246 Dino's.... Some day maybe I'll get one as a restoration project.

Jim

From the dyno numbers, looks like I will be buying a cream puff.

Hmmm, if it's saphire blue, I guess it will be a blueberry cream puff, right?

Cream puff or not, I am at the point of no return... I have to have one.

Any advise about buying a new cream puff? Tips?

Do I need to look for one without preservatives?
