09 str-10 battery box

Removed my battery today, and noticed there is a round plastic thing to the left of the battery box, I know it must be some kind of switch, but for what.

Could this be a safty device, or something with the alarm.

It is the Battery Temperature Sensor... It is used to judge what the system charging voltage should be, and to prevent overcharging in hot weather / conditions.
