19\" tire questions. Help !!!

Just got my 19" tires and was going to have them mounted when I noticed a major height difference.

fronts are 275/30/19
rears are 345/30/19

rears seem to be about 2" taller.

Do I need taller fronts ???

Re: 19

Twinvipers,

I just got my 19" wheels and I have the same issue. I saw another post that described this situation. If I remember correctly, the 295 were too tall & they felt the 275 too short. The conclusion was that the 285's were about right. I could not get my hands on some 285's so I went with the 275's.

Re: 19

DON'T GUESS at TIRE DIAMETERS;   use the following equation to CALCULATE the diameter for ANY size tire. Also, I understand Tire Rack has a tire diameter chart for various (all) tire sizes. Again DON'T GUESS.
You can see (examples) the 345/30x19 are over an inch taller than the stock 335/30x18. :( :(
*************************

TIRE DIAMETER CALCULATION

Tire Diameter = (Width x Aspect Ratio) / 2540 x 2 + Wheel Diameter(inches)

Where:
Width is the first number in size (i.e. 225)
Aspect Ratio is second number (i.e. 55)
2540 is the conversion factor to inches
Wheel Diameter in inches

Examples:
225/55 x 16
225 x 55/2540 x 2 + 16 = 25.74 inches
225/45 x 17
225 x 45/2540 x 2 + 17 = 24.97 inches
345/30 x 19
345 x 30/2540 x 2 + 19 = 27.15 inches
335/30 x 18
335 x 30/2540 x 2 +18 = 25.91 inches

Re: 19

The 285/30 Michelins exist according to Michelin's website, but they can't be found anywhere. (And believe me I have checked)...

After calcing several different tire setups I found the 285/30/19 and 355/25/19 Pirellis are about the best fitting for a 19x10 and 19x13. The bowing of the tire is about the same and the sidewalls match up better. Not to mention both tires do not have the red "P-Zero" logos on them.

This is a dilema with anything 19" for the Viper.

Jon.B said this is the right combo I have.

I have the same setup and the 275's are very thin looking. I currently have the 295's and you have to turn the wheels when you open the hood. They are a bit tall looking.

I wish I knew. It's really nothing more than another form of advertisement and I think it looks silly, especially if you get a mismatched set.

Luckily you can go to us.pirelli.com and see which tires have the label and which don't (nolbl). Tirerack can also tell you if they are solid black, have red letters, or even yellow letters like on the Asymmetricos.

I'm having this same battle right now! It sure seems like a pain in the ass to put wheels and tires on these cars! I really want some PS2's, but they just have random sizes!

Re: 19

Jeff,

To be honest, I think you are going to want the 355/25 Pirelli out back, if not just for the bragging right that it is the widest tire on the market, it should look awesome on the business end of your car.

The 335 is actually a bit small for a 13" rim, you can see this when you look at a stock 18" rim, the tire actually bends a bit. It's not so much the case with the 275's on the 10" front rim.

So even if you just do a 275/30 front, which is also available through Pirelli in a no logo tire, the sidewalls will match up better. And in my opinion a wider tire with a smaller sidewall looks better than one with a taller sidewall.

Re: 19

JonB at the Parts Rack recommended me these: 275/30ZR-19 and 355/25YR-19 (Pirelli's). I'll have them on soon!

Re: 19

bwhitmore,
Do you know the height comparison from a 275/30 to a 355/25 ?

Brian,
Pretty ironic.....I bought that car(RX-7)on Robinettes web site a few years back from Rob Robinette.

Jon B told me 275 and 345's ???

Rik,
Please let us know ASAP. Thanks

Re: 19

275/30/19: 3.2" sidewall, 25.5" diameter
285/30/19: 3.4" sidewall, 25.7" diameter
355/25/19: 3.5" sidewall, 26" diameter

Where as the stock sizes are:

275/35/18: 3.5" sidewall, 25.6" diameter
335/30/18: 4.0" sidewall, 25.9" diameter

and,
345/30/19: 4.1" sidewall, 27.1" diameter

Re: 19

I ended up getting Pirelli Rosso in 295/30/19 and 355/25/19 per John Purner's recommendation. I am told that both front and rear DO NOT have the red marking. I will confirm by Friday afternoon.

Re: 19

I don't see why the red tag/green tag thing is such a big deal. As long as the tread matches and they look similar in height, who cares. That's just me.

Re: 19

I have the 275/30 & 355/25 Pirellis on my Pruners and just put them on tonight. No difference in height noticed. Someone would have to pull out a tape measure to tell the difference. They look awesome. Plus they things sit right out to the edge of the fender lip. Also I believe they are the same diameter as stock. I will post a photo as soon as I find out how.

Too dark in the garage to get good photos, but I have no hesitation recommending this set up. If someone knows of a downside, I am unaware of it.
