3R Racing Finishes Sixth and Nineteenth at Mosport

Bowmanville, Canada ? 3R Racing’s Tommy Archer finished in seventh today in round ten of the SCCA Pro Racing Speed World Challenge GT series race run at Mosport International Raceway this afternoon.

The start of the 50-minute race witnessed a first turn crash that collected thirteen cars. Tommy Archer was able to avoid the carnage by nearly coming to a complete stop in the center of the mess, before picking a hole and continuing.

Teammate and team owner Tim Wiens, driving the number 3/FirsTier Bank/3R Viper, was not so lucky. The Colorado resident went through the crash and then had to take evasive action onto the grass and was suddenly spinning back into traffic where he was struck by a Corvette. The hit ended his day and resulted in substantial damage to the Viper Competition Coupe.

When the race restarted some ten laps and twenty-minutes later, Archer was in seventh. “The start was crazy. I had to come to a complete stop in turn one, pick my hole and then get going before getting rear-ended. Once the race was restarted I couldn’t get a run on Hayner to move up. Pilgrim was still in the race and I would have liked to have been in a position to go after him, but with our performance handicap I couldn’t. I would exit turn five right on Hayner’s tail and then he would leave me seven car lengths behind. Our restrictor is really holding us back.”

Tim Wiens was checked out at the infield medical center and released. “There was no where to go. I thought I saw an opening and went through and then had to go off onto the grass and then I became a passenger. Unfortunately I ended up in the middle of the track and took a hard hit from the Corvette. I have a slight pain in my foot and the car is pretty bad off.”

Archer has assumed sole possession of second place in the points and is eight behind Cadillac’s Pilgrim, 225 to 217.
