I've waited patiently for about 18 months for the factory to define and authorize modifications to eliminate the subject rattle. Unfortunately, over this period of time virtually nothing has been accomplished.

First I understood that the all four shocks/springs were to be replaced, but a part number was required to order the new parts. I also learned that the option to install the standard GTS setup was also available but that is not really an option for me at all. I most recently learned that the factory was now only authorizing replacement of the rear shocks/springs which raises concerns about calibration and performance consistency. Still no part number so when such repairs might be performed is anyone's guess.

I finally called the factory and found them to be courteous but hardly helpful. They simply parroted back what the Dealership had told me previously.

I really like this car and want to keep it but I cannot tolerate the shock rattle any longer. Any suggestions as to how I might rectify this condition. Sans an expedient and effective resolution, it's 2001 ACR for me. Bill Pemberton here I come ......

Kevin,

Going to the regular dampers requires a rather involved process of ballasting, checking ride height and torquing the bolts so that the rubber bushings are properly preloaded. If you have lowered the ride height of your car, then going to the regular spring/damper will likely raise the rear ride height and change the bump steer curves a little bit.

What you guys might consider is simply removing the spherical rod end bearings from the top shock eyes and replacing them with something that has some compliance and acoustic damping characteristics. I haven't looked at how the bearings are held into the Konis, but on my Penskes they are retained by snap rings.

Some thoughts.......and you asked for suggestions:

1) My new boss Dan suggests zip-wiring the unloaded shocks in the UP position to eliminate THAT source of rattle, where the unloaded short shocks clatter. Other dealers have tried rubber spacers. But the valves still rattle.

2) Upgrade to the 2000.5 - 2001 rear shock; I am trying to hunt a P/N.......and failing ~~~: ( <~~

3) Upgrade to SOB 3-way remote reservoir rear shocks.

All 4 shocks rattle...........but you only hear the rears, as they are 'connected' within the cockpit sound envelope. So, Dodge says 'replace the rears.' (personally, I think it is a dumb idea)

I have also heard "We'll give you 4 Non-ACR shocks to keep."

Possible Solution: At least 5 folks have had their Koni shocks revalved, by Koni, (thru a distributor like PartsRack or Archer) and all claim the sound is 80%+ better...much improved.

The cost is kinda high: $250/shock X 2 + s/h. Furthermore, Koni will not guarantee this fix at all, much less for the life of the shock.
