AM/FM/VEC2??

I friend in the caraudio field has informed me that Kenwood has a radio with LCD screen that has the computing power of a small laptop. I was planning on buying a dedicated laptop for my VEC2, but was wondering if anyone can confirm or deny this little rumor. I think it would be easier on the electrical system to have and all-in-one computer/radio.

What is the Kenwood model ?
I would install it right away ...

I know that you can attach a compter Screen to these LCDs however the touch buttons are not working. Maybe Kenwood buils a unit that activates the mouse buttons.

VEC2 uses a 9 pin serial interface. if the Kenwood has a 9 pin serial out, then there may be hope. But the VEC2 is quite powerful... so unless you can run the software on the stereo (which would require the stereo to run windows) then i am not hopeful.

This is similar to a few things that crossed my mind... What about a PDA that runs windows, with an RS-232 connection cable? (if it exists, or if it can be made) You could hard-wire it to the car, and have the cable come out in the glove-box. Just leave it on all the time. The RS-232 cable for the VEC-2 is just a SND, RCV, and GRD setup, I suspect you could wire these to other PDA inputs and just change the COM port accordingly on the VEC2 software?

In conjunction with the input controller I have in my car, it would be a fully functional logging/tuning system on the fly, anytime...wideband and all.
