Anyone adapted / converted the stock headers to a 3" collector?

Is the limiting factor on flow the exhaust pipe diameter, the header tubes themselves or the cats?

Question if the effort is worth it if:

A) If they aren't the weak link
B) if the engine doesn't need the flow, i.e. not sufficiently modified.

With the little gains documented on 3" exhaust and hi flow cats, (and headers for that matter), I'd guess that more serious work was required before the exhaust system became the limiting factor.

Ron,

At least for me I am considering the whole exhaust system. The rest of my system is already 3 inch, the only small size pipe in the car is the headers.

2k for a set of headers (I had decided on Bellangers after all of "my" research) for those kind of results got me thinking.......

I am going to 3" HF cats, and a 3" catback, I thought about somehow "converting" the stock SS headers over to a 3" collector / connection. I would have thought someone here may have already "experimented" with that modification.

From that aspect I understand, and would probably consider the same, but I don't think even an entire 3" system makes much power on an unmodified engine.
