I'm interested.

Chuck, how could this be anything but good? Its good for the same reason there are magnetic oil drain plugs, to catch particles, right? Am I missing something here, as to why its a gimmick?
*edit* Is it because its just not needed? I'll try one, and after changing the filter, I'll do a post mortem, and see if it helped.

I would hope that you are not getting so many shavings that the magnetic pick up at the drain plug isn't picking them up.

Good point. Lately, there isn't really anything on my drain plug, and hasn't been, since break-in.

Vic, it's been discussed. The general feeling was if a magnet on the filter can pick up shavings you got real problems that a $2 magnet for the price of $50 aint gonna fix.

As an alternative, perhaps you could just stick a standard magnet to the outside of your filter. That should hold the filings. Maybe it's not 500 times as strong, but how strong a magnet do you need?

I like to find out the “truth” about anything. Does it work? Is it a waist of money? Is there a better solution? If someone knows something I don’t, I want to hear it. Everyone has an opinion. Some opinions are supportable and others are not. I’m interested in the supportable ones. Let’s take an objective look at this. First is there a metal contamination issue? It is a mechanical machine. Mechanical machines do wear. That is the nature of the animal. The factory installed a magnetic drain plug. As much as I want my Viper to last, every time it’s run there is wear. Next, what could be done about this wear? Frequent oil changes using expensive oil. Most are doing this. I am. Never start the Viper. That isn’t living up to the Viper experience. Magnetic oil drain plug. Good idea but I have questions. Is all the oil run passed the drain plug or is it a haphazard event? After all, my plug looks clean most of the time. Is the magnet used in the drain plug strong enough to pull most of the metal contaminates out of the engine oil? Without knowing the answers to the last two questions, we really cannot make a determination on the effectiveness of this drain plug. Where else could the factory put a magnet besides the drain plug that could be cleaned as needed? It seems to me that an oil filter magnet can only help. Most if not all the oil goes through the filter. If up to me, the engines life blood would not have one speck of metal contamination. A powerful filter magnet is one step closer to the reality. After all, I’ve spent more on lesser things.
