I posted this on the performance mod forum too. I might be doing a time trial next month and want to change out my brake pads and fluid before I go. So, what is the best pad and fluid for high performance driving? I want a pad that I can drive on the street too. Not overly worried about dust. Currently i have EBC Greens and they did not do well for my last time at this track. Also, where is the best place to pick these up? Thanks for any advice!

You might try Brakeman 3's and Motul 600...can order from JonB at PartsRack (1-360-837-3937 ) or from Archer Racing Accessories (1-866-272-4375 )

Just finished the Viper Days season with Motul RBF 600 and never had any brake fluid issues or problems. Hard to beat for the cost.
Used to run Brakeman #3 on the street & track. They are a fine replacemnt for what you want to do - street with some track events.
PFC 01 are great on the track, but I have Stoptechs also.
Check Jon B @ partsrack.com, or Archer Racing, or Bobby Archer.

Yep. On the 20th. Got a message from ACR Steve that he will be there racing. Not sure if that's in a Viper though. I have a friend that races an RX-7. He will be there and talked me into going. Should be a lot of fun for just a little cash. It's part of the EMRA league I believe.

I run Castrol SRF in my vette, have done 8 DE's this summer and havn't had to bleed once.

Worth every penny ($70/litre, ouch)

If Motul 600 is working well for you, you aren't driving fast enough. If your caliper paint isn't orangish-brown, you aren't driving fast enough.

AP 600 will do you for a full season without the need to bleed and flush constantly. It's 1/3 the price of SRF, with 98% of the effectiveness.

Brakeman pads are soft, but cheap. PFC pads will outwear Brakeman 3:1 and stop better for about 2x the price.

Stop Tech slotted rotors are a great value, but grab and pop (on the slots) in reverse on the street. My recommendation: track only.

I agree with Dean on all counts. Although I can't say I've tried AP600, I'm so happy with Castrol that I'm not willing to change.

Roger and thanks all. I think I'm going with the Brakeman #3 and the AP600 simply because I rarely go to the track.

here's some wet/dry boiling points of more commone fluids used. Ford fluid is also very popular, inexpensive and doesn't retain moisture as much as others. Brake fluids don't store well, so don't buy a lot and have it sitting around-want to keep moisture out of them (but I am sure you know that!)

Fluid DRY WET
Castrol LMA DOT 3/4 446 311
Ford Heavy Duty DOT 3 550 290
ATE Super Blue Racing 536 392
ATE TYP 200 536 392
Motul Racing 600 585 421
Castrol SRF 590 518
Performance Friction 550 284

Batboy: Summit Point is a great track. Get the PFC's and since you rarely track your ride get the BMW High Performance Brake Bluid. I have more track time in a Viper than most do at Summit Point on this board.

Why is it? I Can't get anyone to Summit Point during the warmer months?

Frank, where can I get the PFC's, if I go with them, and the BMW fluid? Will you be in the area on the 20th? Do you take the Viper there much? The norhtern VA Corvette Club has been trying to get me to get some of the Vipers together for some "racing" up there. I wasn't aware there were other Vipers driving that track. I learn something new every day.

Batboy: i was getting mine from Sean Roe at Roe Racing. You can get the High Performance BMW fluid at any BMW Dealer in the parts department. I run Summit maybe 6 x's a year with SCCA & NASA. I can check my Parts stash, maybe i have a set of PFC's I have a case of Fluid. Does the corvette club do wheel to wheel or time trials? i'd be up for either. I will be on vacation during the EMRA event.

Ahhh too bad. I'd love to chat with you more. JonB at parts rack mentioned they don't make rear pads in the PFC's, plus I guess they are a lot more expensive. So, I'm just going to go with the Brakeman 3's. Considering I don't do that much track stuff I figure it's a good compromise. I'll look into the BMW fluid, but I may just get whatever Jon has.

As for the NVACC I believe they are time trials, but they may do wheel to wheel too. I'd be a little leery of doing that myself. I'll try to chat with them and see what they like doing the most. I wonder how many vipers we could get out for something like that?

PFC only makes the rear pads in the 90 compound. At least that I'm aware of....

And yes, the PFC's are more expensive going in, but are cheaper in the long run because they last longer.
