Can you re-code lock cylinders?

Here's what I would like to know, perhaps the Wizard will know this.
Background: When I bought my car it came with 2 keys, one orig. snake head and one the dealer cut from that one, 2 fobs, one old square style and one later style (still sneaky pete logo)
Question: If I brought the ignition and hatch cylinders to the dealer with new blanks (bought off eBay) can they be changed to a new code. There is one orig. key "M.I.A." (orig. owner kept it as a momento) as well as one orig. fob.
What are your thoughts? Has anyone done this?

I would think a good locksmith would be better.

Call your dealer. My Dealer here in Madison, Wi. rekeys locks. The new locks come uncoded and they have to matched to the vehicle. He puts the tumblers in the slots according to the key he can get by running the vehicle VIN through DC.

there are a few cars out there that about 100 keys open all cars. i wouldnt be surprised if vipers were keyed the same. does the old owner live near you? if so, i can see your worry. i see your worry regardless, but i think the dealer re-keys back to the way it came? no? 1 of 100 different key sets if viper runs the same setup as other oem;s.
