recall repair. Info like what exactly is done with pictures and what is a good job versus what is a bad job. Any links would be greatly appreciated.

Michael,
Do a search here. "Recall 998" and "all posts" it's here I just looked at them or if you want you could give me a call and I can explain it to you. To date I've done 135 and fixed 14 wrong ones from other Dealers!

Poked through the posts hit with that search and did not find any pictures. I'll try and give you a call next week Chuck. This what happened. I bought a "rough" 98 GTS and am nursing it back to health. Lou Belanger had the car on his lift to evaluate the exhaust situation and called me and said he thought the car had been injured in the front and the frame repaired. My heart sunk since I relied on Carfax showing a clean title (best I could do really). He thought this because he said some funny looking gussets had been welded on the front portion of the frame. I have been doing some cleaning in the engine compartment today and all of a sudden it dawned on me that what he saw was the recall repairs. I looked at some service records that the previous owner gave me and sure enough, Big "O" Dodge of Greenville, SC did what they described as "Recall 998 installed frame gussetts steering reinforcement and rear diff reinforcement brackets per recall" and charged 5.3 hours for the work under warranty on December 11, 2003. I'll sleep better tonight thinking (hopefully "knowing" soon) that Lou is a better exhaust man than a body/frame man and my car is good to go (Albert "Fat Albert" Box is going to take a look at the car next week so hopefully he can point all this out to me).

Just make SURE you can access the OIL FILTER. SEVERAL here have had or bought Vipers that have had the triangular plates placed incorrectly and can NO LONGER access the oil filter. I am on vacation, PM me next week as I have pics of CORRECT modifications I can send you.

I think good news is that the same dealer that did the recall, on the same service visit, also did an oil/filter change, so you would think (depending in which order they performed the work) that they figured it out. :D Any pics would be greatly appreciated. I'll pm you next week.

There is a recall for the frame repair on my 97GTS, i would like to have it done and dont mind bringing the Viper to NY. Im located in MD. How long would this take? Any cost incurred to customer or is it covered by the recall?
I am in central Jersey and had Chuck Tator do the recall about a month ago.
Believe me.....if you don't mind the ride...you will not be disappointed in his work. You will never be able to tell that the recall work was ever done....it looks like it came out of the factory this way. He paints everything to match the existing frame. Simply outstanding.
Now....If I could only figure out how to get the oil filter out.....Just kidding Chuck.....Great job...couldn't be happier. Hope to see you soon.
The recall work should cost you nothing but if you have anything else that you might need or want done you might as well have the Wizard do it. He is the best. The only place I ever felt completely safe leaving my Viper.....hmmmmm...still trying to figure out where the extra 500 miles on the speedo turned up after picking up car!!!!

All red Xs since the post was from way back in August of 02, so if anyone has shots, feel free to post. Thanks for all the info. I'm am just so darn glad it was the recall repair and not a wreck repair Belanger saw that - well I'm so happy I gonna have some BBQ ribs and Corona!

Edit>> Bad news is I was looking at the car more and sure enough there is a triangle gusset right under the oil filter. I have not had the car up to see if the oil filter is trapped, but from the top side it looks like there is no way to get the filter out. 1) if the triangle is right below the filter does that mean the 998 recall was done improperly? Or it that basically where the gusset is supposed to be and it is just a matter of exact positioning as to whether the filter will come out or not? 2) I am assuming that if it is not correct, and since it was done by a Dodge dealer, that Dodge will foot the bill for fixing it - true?

Is there any way to get to the full text of the 998 recall (and the others) and print it? With all these stories of mis-labeling and dealer screw-ups, I'd like to have as much info on hand as I can before I have the work done on my '96 (if I have it done at all). Like Phoenix was saying, any pictures would REALLY be great.

I saw where Chuck T. (on another thread) mentioned the dealer calling up PN caam9981 and printing the updated installation bulletin for the tech. That was a good tip.

Dealer I had check my car's history said it showed 998, 731 & 725 had not been done. As far as I know, no recalls have been done on the car. Aren't there a couple of more for a '96 GTS (712, 726)?

How can an owner get a full text of the TSB's for their particular model? The dealer I talked to said that they could not provide a copy to an owner (against the rules/law/etc.). Isn't here somewhere that an owner can access the full text of those and print it, or have a willing dealer provide these (even for a reasonable price)?

Thanks!
Robert

Have Tom Sessions at D&E Dodge in Wilmington do your recall. He's done MANY - all correct - and finds the incorrect ones at Viper Days as his job as the chief tech inspector.

He'll do the best job possible and make sure all the other stuff is up to *****, too.

Robert,

May be you should change dealer, there are no legal reasons for him not to print a copy for you.

Another source is alldata.com, you can read a description of all TSB and recalls for free and it's about $20 to get the full text for all of them.
