Center Console Bowing up

Just saw this picture today and it made me think about my friends 97 GTS. Both this one and my friends center console bowed up (see arrow). My friend said it happen just all of sudden one day. Anyone else experiance this problem and know what is causing this bowing?

Friend with the 97 said he notice his after it sat in the garage for a few weeks. He said he never used the center console for pushing himself up. I did a search and could not find a thread about it. It made me wonder how I can avoid this happening to me.

Could just be a side effect of heat in the cabin. Maybe it was getting reall hot in the garage and thats what caused it.

Most common cause is giving rides to hefty women.
