CNC machines are great, they do what takes 16-30hrs labor in 2hrs and can be programed for many applications and there lyes the key.Programming can take more time and material of hit and miss than one can imagine, once a program is to the designers needs then the rest is gravy but it is far from as easy as you would think. The time it takes to invest on a particular item there would have to be a pretty large market to make profitable. The best thing about this process is once you have what you want in a program it will never vary.

The actual CNC machine whether it be a lathe, verticle mill, horizontal mill is only part of the equation. Tooling, fixturing, CAD/CAM programs and a competent CNC machinist/programmer are the other parts. Although a good CNC machine is a good investment, other things are required to make it usable for a particular application.

Its like buying weiners/franks for hot dogs but still needing buns.

I want one of those!!

I use to progrom these things. Basically you have to design it in your head, then the computer, then make a prototype. I use to do it with plastic before I did any actual work to make sure the tolerences and everything was correct.

I could be dangerous with one of those and a water jet cutter!!
