Mike, so sorry to read this, you have my condolences 
Both sides of my family have a sad history of losing parents and at a rather early point in life too, my mother and I are the first ones to keep them so far (hers already passed away at quite respectable ages though). My dad quit smoking quite some time ago however when the doctors tested his lung capacity a few years back it was almost 100%
