Corsa Vs. Rear muffler delete

I currently have the rear sub assembley exhaust from snake oyl on my 98 GTS. This system just replaces the large muffler in the rear. It sounds decent, but I have noticed that most people use the Corsa cat back system. I would like to have a louder exhaust note. Would the Corsa system increase the magnitude of the sound and by how much? How much horespower is to gain from changing my current set up to the Corsa catback with high flow cats. I know you can reduce back pressure too much in an exhaust system. How much is too much in this case?

Just put a cat back Corsa on my 2000 GTS, sounds a LOT better!

Get to a VCA club event, Viper Days event, or Vipers at any local ******* event. LOL!!!! That's the best way to hear a variety and see which sounds better to you.

Corsa offers better sound, no drone at cruising speeds. I made the same move as you -- Snake Oyl rear muffler delete to Corsa catback w/high flow cats -- and picked up 8 RWHP on my 01 GTS.

Do you think the gains were mostly from the Corsa or from High Flow cats? I was thinking about just adding high flow cats to snake oyl. No questions asked, I am certain Corsa will sound MUCH better.... but I am on budget

Corsa is THE only cat-back that is supposed to have NO drone.

I'm not sure what accounted for the 8-RWHP increase. Of course, Corsa claims 18 HP gain, but I'd say that's wildly optimistic. As far as I'm concerned, 8 RWHP is negligible. There are lots of aftermarket exhausts. Corsa's strengths are excellent construction quality and fit, great looking tips, good sound, and no drone. There are other systems out there which sound louder (and remember, sound is a matter of personal preference) and produce more horsepower. It all depends what you're looking for. If horsepower gain is very important to you, maybe the Corsa is not the best choice.

The corsa system is designed just like straight pipes. From the outside you see a muffler 'can' but from the inside through the 'cans' it is solid pipe. I am not sure why they do this. Might be a percieved value issue. At any rate, after installing many corsa systems that customers have supplied everyone seems happy with it. The other one to look at is the Mopar/Borla system. It has a deeper 'throatier' sound but is not as loud as Corsa.

Mine was a little different-OEM-CORSA (too truckish)-CORSA with rear muffler's removed (way too gurgly truckish)-finally found deep rumble MOPAR with a rear 3" Magna flow X-pipe. I got waaay to caught up in peoples personal preferences and about all I heard was Corsa this and Corsa that and I had to get it.I still remember after the install when I first started it up

I've listened to em all, I still like the snake oyl best, it's all personal preference. As far as hp gain, Jason Heffner did a big dyno day a few years back and kept track of this particular issue vs. stock. That day seemed to pretty conclusively say that either the snake oyl or the Corsa or the Mopar...On the cars with no other mods other than tubes and filters, and they all had those, gave about 7-8 rwhp increase over the stock exhaust. I would suspect that Ron's increase is due to the high flow cats. The results of that dyno day were all posted here and should be searchable.

I am about to delete the muffler and install an X-pipe (with really cool tips). I am hoping for a nice improvement in sound. Of course, if I wanted a double digit HP gain, I could purchase the new Vipair system.
