I've got a manual on the way, but I think I'll have my new head gasket first. I did a static check on the other head and came up with ~55 FT Lb/100 Nm. I don't like the potential for error, so I could use some help. Anybody?

  1. Install new gasket(s) on the engine block. Assure all coolant passages and bolt holes align properly.(Cylinder Head Gasket Installation).
CAUTION: Cylinder head bolts are coated, DO NOT oil.
  2. Install cylinder head(s) over dowel pins. Install cylinder head bolts 1–12. Tighten cylinder head bolts 1–12 in the sequence shown in (Cylinder Head Bolt Tightening Sequence) using a two step torque sequence:
  3. First to 47 N·m (35 ft. lbs.).
  4. Second to 122 N·m (90 ft. lbs.).
  5. After cylinder head bolts 1–12 have been tightened to specifications, install and tighten cylinder head tappet gallery bolts A–H in sequence shown in (Cylinder Head Bolt Tightening Sequence) to 11 N·m (95 in. lbs.).
  6. Inspect the push rods. Replace worn or bent push rods as necessary.
  7. Install push rods. Install rocker arms and pedestal assemblies into their original positions. Ensure push rods are seated properly under each rocker arm. Tighten rocker arm bolts to 35 N·m (26 ft. lbs.) (Cylinder Head and Gasket).
