Cylinder Misfire 1996 GTS

Recently had head gasket replaced. Cylinder head was slightly warped and was able to have it machined. Engine is put back together, but now one of the cylinders misfires. Didn't do this before. Mechanic thought it might be a bad fuel injector, but he switched it out and it did not resolve the issue. He thought maybe it was the push rod was too long after the machine shop work. The machine shop thought it could be a lifter not seated properly. Mechanic did a compression test on the cylinder and it was fine. He is thinking maybe it is a wiring issue that is causing the cylinder not to fire properly. Any thoughts out there? Thanks.

Is it a misfire on one cylinder or more? Did the misfire set a check engine light? Have you checked for codes?

I agree about checking the wires closely as it is common to see issues with crossed wires after engine work.. A mechanic's mirror is a big help in identifying the proper terminals on the coil packs. Look for damaged sparkplug, damaged boot, and check resistance in wires. Also, check for arcing in a dark garage...just don't harm yourself with the exhaust fumes in a closed space. After a plug/ wire change or reassembly, I like to use a small amount of dielectric gel applied with a Q-tip to the plug wire connectors.

The 96 manual firing order is in correct/ Because the Viper uses "wasted spark" it is possible to have one showing a misfire. I assume when everything was put together you used the Champ 438 plugs and new wires? Did you use new coil packs too?

You only had one head decked? Pushrod length absolutely changed. I’d double check plug wiring order as well.
