Do 19\" Wheels Affect The Way The Car Handle?

noticed ever since i went with the bigger 19" wheel i get alot of tire screeching coming from the rear. is this possible? i used to make the same turns at the same speed with my 18"s and car felt like it was on rails. also what tire pressure should a 285/30/19 and 345/35/19 tires be set at? is it the same as the 18" stockers at 29lbs? thanks

Re: Do 19

Dimitrios,

Its your tires. What tires do you have on now with the 19's? If you had Michelin pilots before. That your answer. The pilots are a very soft tire. Compared to say P-zeros.

Re: Do 19

The 19s raised your car a half inch, unless you had it lowered afterwards. If you lowered it, then you need a new alignment. If you have a new alignment, maybe its different.

Any bigger wheel translates to a stiffer "sidewall", so yes.

I told you now you have less side wall and there for less flex. The side wall has to flex a little in order to grip. But you may want to try 20,s on you car so I can finally whip you butt. :)

Nope. Not with the 345/30/19 which is 1" taller than stock - so the sidewall is almost identical to the stock combination.

Re: Do 19

I have exactly the same set-up as you. I am having some difficulty finding replacements. I think I may have to special order and keep them in the garage. Nobody around my area has them. Look good on the car though.

Thinking of switching to Pirelli that make a 355/25/19. Anybody have any experience with Pirelli???

Re: Do 19

I had noticed Vipers with 19's and 20's struggle around the auto-X as compared to stock size cars.

I also remember reading one of the autotomobile magazines had a higher slalom time when Dodge switched to 18's.

This primarily why I chose to get 18's and after reading your post Dimitrios, I am glad.

BTW, have you remembered to send me the CD? :D

Re: Do 19

That extra inch makes the car feel slugglish from the extra weight and mass (false, only kidding). Also the tires keeps hitting the rear fender wells which slows the car down (true fact). Go check again, I bet there is a nice extra groove on the side of the rear tires. Everytime you play Stevie Nicks, that also slows the car down, it can't handle that kind of music (true fact).
