I just replaced my engine mounts for my Gen1 with Poly mounts from Woodhouse. The stock ones were in BAD shape. If you own a Gen1 and haven't had them done, I suggest doing it. I haven't gotten the car out on the road yet, so I can't comment yet on noise/vibration from the poly vs rubber.
Overall, this is an easy, 1 day DIY job. I used my floor jack and some 2x10 on the oil pan, once the car was on jack stands. No issue. Some hints.
- Undo all 3 airbox screws. Don't forget the one in the middle.
- Raise the engine slowly and listen, in case you forge the one in the middle.
- Both mount brackets are easily accessible from under the car once the engine is up 3-4 inches. You don't need more lift than that.
- Torque the mount to bracket nut in a vise to be sure you've got it to SPEC.
- Leave the bolts on the bracket to block a touch loose and let the engine down slowly. If you tighten them to spec before lowering the car, you may not have the seating right. It may be difficult or impossible to get the engine to align with the frame mounts.
