Just blew my motor this weekend and need to find someone local that knows the Gen3 motor, but won't cost me a ton. Any suggestions appreciated.

Not sure what happened, but assume a couple cylinders spun a bearing (only because I had this exact same thing happen a couple years ago with this motor and it sounds exactly the same). Arrow Performance did the first rebuild 2 years ago, but they are all the way in Detroit and the cost was crazy, especially since I have not even put 2K miles on the fresh motor.

Just a few words to the wise:

You get what you pay for. Cheap and Viper engine do not go in the same sentence. The same goes for who you allow to rebuild your engine, or work on your car for that matter. Letting a shop who does not deal with Viper engines do the rebuild is a recipe for another failure.

For what its worth...

Dear MXZ900,

Sorry to hear that news. I know Toddy at Bad Boyzz Garage is currently rebuilding a Gen III engine, he's a forum sponsor. His phone # is: 916-505-9026

Regards,
Aaron

I agree with what you are saying Final GTS; however, Arrow is a reputable company. In fact my last rebuild was warranty and that is who Dodge required me to have rebuild the engine. And yet here I am posting a note for any suggestions on another rebuild within a short period of time (in my opinion - 2 yrs and only a handful of track days).

Just looking for advice on who people have had good luck with and felt they got good service and a fair price with.

Give Roanoke Motors a call... I and a ton of other Ill club members have had lots of work done there. An absolute top notch Viper dealer and service center. Give John Gastman a call there.

Makes me wonder about the track day I just did. Time will tell.

No harm no foul. In 99% of instances, it works out just fine when using that methodology, my terms were very general. Things can happen, regardless who does the work and how good their reputation seems to be.

But in general terms, viper engines are not cheap to deal with, and many mistakes are made by novice shops. You have a good chance of problems using a novice Viper engine shop, or using cheap parts, just as you have a good chance of success by dealing with a Viper-engine specialist, and high-quality components and machine work.

A engine is not just a sum total of its parts, it takes a lot of expertise and attention to detail to properly build an engine that will last for many years without trouble.
