The stock speakers pretty much ****. My rears were completely blown, so you might want to check yours out. I am trying to improve the sound by just replacing the speakers, but I am not yet sure how good the head unit and amp are.

You shouldn't have any problem with the rear glass, due to the subs. It will hold up fine.

Alright thanks man.. It's prob pointless to check my stock speakers out anyways when I get the car since I just bought new speakers.

I'm going to keep everything anyways so I have all the original parts :2tu:

So I took the liberty of installing the Alpine Type R component system last Friday night. I installed these speakers because it sounded like the stock tweeters were blown (the crackle at any volume). The install went something like this:

Remove door panel.

Grind out tweeter hole in the door panel in order to be able to mount tweeter like I wanted it.

Drill holes in door panel speaker mount in order to properly set speaker mount.

Drill out and tap speaker mount holes in order to mount speaker properly.

Cut/splice wires. Run wires to/from Alpine crossover.

Mount crossover to inside of door panel with Velcro.

Re-install door panel. Tighten everything up.

Woohoo! New speakers! :wow:

Turn on radio. No sound. :omg: Remember that I didn't plug in the factory harness.

Remove door panel. :grumble:

Connect harness.

Enjoy music... :headbang:

Oh wait, the new set up still crackles! UGH!!! :aargh:

Well, I was gonna replace the deck anyway. Looks like I will be doing it sooner than later. At least it sounds better than the stock system. The speakers have a much more "full" sound and the sound doesn't drop off in the high frequencies or rattle in the low frequencies.

The entire process for both doors took a little under 4 hours. I would have taken pics, but I didn't take the camera with me. If any of you would like more detail on the install, PM me and I can pull it all apart again and take some pics. :eater:
