Where on the windshield of a GTS relative to the rearview mirror have you all placed your Valentine V1 for optimum front and rear radar reception?

Mine is ABOVE the rear view mirror and actually the front of the V1 rests slightly on the mirror, the higher it is, the farther down the road it can "see" radar and laser.

Above the mirror but as close to the mirror as possible so that the upper tinted glass does not interfere with reception.

Velcro mine to the top of the dash. Works fine...no tickets to date. Couldn't keep it from falling off the windshield and becoming an Unwanted Flying Object(UFO) in the cockpit. :smirk:

One of the advantages of the V1 is picking up from the rear, you don't want to block the reception through the back window. I use the windshild, right side of mirror, even with the mirror. Never had any problem with it coming off.

I know you asked about the GTS but ...

Velcroed to the dash in the center in the RT/10 and above the mirror in the SRT. The mirror location is poor for rearward visibility in the RT/10 (sport bar in sight line). I use a remote monitor for each as well.

Someone above noted that you should keep the V1 low enough so it doesn't look through tinted glass if you have it.
This is very real. I did a little testing. The tint will cut down your reception quite a bit.

I did not find that the V1's view to the rear was blocked by the sports bar. It would seem that it should have an effect but I could not detect any attenuation.

If you procure an additional V1 suction cup mount and then remove the cups, wrap velcro around the mounts, epoxy from behind to ensure the velcro stays put, then install it backwards on the V1, you'll have the most secure and out of the way V1 installation possible. It's really rock solid. I then mounted the remote display on top of the steering column for easy visability.

Conveniently, it does not preclude using the V1 in the conventional manner in another car provided you have an additional suction cup mount (Cheap direct from Valentine) as the strip of velcro in the front of the unit does not get in the way. The velcro on the windshield header can also be is easily/carefully removed if ever required.

I had already removed the worthless sun visors for better forward visability prior to thinking of this mount style, so am not sure if this will work if you don't ditch them.
