HELP. Burned exhaust (PIC\'S)

Nobody responded to my last post so I will try again with a different subject, (people probably thought it was another exhaust "sound" post instead of "surround".

How do I get the paint code on this? Thanks in advance.

Thanks, are you getting it done under warranty? If not let me know what they charge so if I decide to let my dealer do it they won't rip me off. Also, are you still using the Corsa or did you go back to stock? Yours looks like its further away from the exit than mine.

Ricky & Brad, the problem with your paint is that who ever installed your Corsa system [that's what it looks like to me?] did not adjust your system so the tips are at least even or slightly out of your rockers/sills. Look at the pictures, the tips are inboard of the rockers! They will burn the paint that way! That paint is just flat black.

I brought my tip out a little bit but i'm not sure if its still far enough! I'm am getting it done through warrenty for mine! I stuck with the Corsa and I'm hoping nothing else goes wrong. my tips are probalby both an 1/8th of an inch in from the sill on both sides right now.

Someone should be able to adjust them out further so you don't have the paint problem again.

Chuck how far should they be brought out? a tiny bit of my tip is covered by the sill when cold. They are tottally centered when hot! I hate this expansion issue with this exhaust.

Re: HELP. Burned exhaust (PIC\'S)

Chuck, the first install resulted in the exhaust dropping into the side sill, I did not notice this for almost a day at viper days, by then it cooked everything. I have had Archer Racing work on this for almost 2 full days (Willow Springs and Buttonwillow), this is the best they could do. I would assume that they have installed hundreds of these. From what I have read here on the board Corsa it seems has a design problem that they are not addressing, this should be a simple install. A friend of mine purchased the Mopar performance exhaust and it went on flawlessly.

i had this issue too, the best thing i came up with was to set the tips where you want and spot weld the exhaust to the front. It's worked after 2 attempts to adjust and burning sill. They haven't moved for 2500 miles now.

John, that was Archers solution too. They are now welded, but still don't stick out too far.

Yes the Corsa's do not fit that great [pain in the A$$]! The ones I've installed I had to play with the tips to get them to fit correctly! On one I had to heat the mounts and bend them to fit! MOPAR is better!!

Chuck how much louder is the Mopar? Any drone at cruise speed? Many of us want to address the sill heat issue but do not want the annoying drone noise.

Re: HELP. Burned exhaust (PIC\'S)

Mine was done under warranty 2000 miles ago. It is burning again and chipping again. I am thinking about getting one of those heat paint and paint it on. I am tired of this. Maybe I'm too young to appreciate side exhaust, but I grew up in the 80's and 90's where you can see the exhaust from the rear. I remember drooling over the rear exhaust of the late 80's mustang 5.0's. With the side exhaust, it seems like there are so much problems and noise and heat, etc.... Maybe it's just me, but I would have preferred rear exhaust.

I don't know, I've heard too many stories about changing the exhaust and buring the side covers?

Re: HELP. Burned exhaust (PIC\'S)

How much for the Mopar exhaust?
Has anyone done this mod and can give their honest opinion.

I have the exhaust from Mopar Performance. It cost me $550 from Sean Roe. Mechanically, I've had no issues and it doesn't seem to expand like the "other" brand. The picture below is when cold. When hot, it expands only enough to put the tip exactly in the center of the "hole". It sounds pretty good and is plenty loud. I feel bad for folks I pass with open windows. I can't imagine getting an earfull when I get into the throttle.

Re: HELP. Burned exhaust (PIC\'S)

Also wanted to add that I had my Mopar exhaust MIG welded vs. using only the supplied band clamps. Don't know if that has any effect on expansion but it certainly prevents it from slipping down.
