I made my second trip to the drag strip last night. I ran 13.456 et @ 109 mph. My car is stock, and I'm running on stock run-flat tires. I feel like I should be able to go faster, as cars with less horsepower and more weight are running faster than I am.

I'm considering Skip White's wheel/drag radial set up, and I'm adding some headers and less restrictive exhaust, but I really need to work on my driving skills too.

Here's my time slip (Left Lane):

Where do I have the most room for improvement? What should I be aiming for for my 60 foot, 1/8 mile, and other times? (I'm at 5800 feet above sea level.)

Thanks in advance.

60'- 1.8-2.0

1/8- 7.9-8.0

1/4- 11.9-12.3

to guarantee a good run, launch real low. launch at 1500 and stomp on the gas. make sure you shift fast that will make the biggest difference in the world.

I bog mine off the light, this helps alot with tire spin..Once you start spinning the tires, it doesn't like to stop. Your times are showing that you must have alot of tire spin....

The 60 foot isn't horrible for run-craps. The best I can do is 1.9. My 1/8 mile times are about 1 second better! Just that improvement alone would give you a 12.4 1/4. Are you spinning in second gear? I find my adrenaline is pumping so much at the 1-2 shift I forget to be gentle and sometimes smoke the tires in 2nd. This will give me an 8.4 - 8.5 1/8 mile every time. Rent a track for a few hours and practice, or even better....get a G-tech pro and a quiet country road.

The times up here at this altitude are about a second off of the sea level times. You actually ran closer to a 12.4. Just so the rest of these guys can compare apples to apples.

Don't turbo and supercharged cars have an advantage at higher altitudes? If you can still cram more air into the cylinders in the thin air.....Maybe that's why the 'heavier cars with less power' are beating you? What kinda cars are these? What mods do they have?

I'm spinning in first and second. Still trying to find the line between getting on the throttle, and maintaining traction. Less spinning now than my first night out, where the back end was really cutting loose, juking back and forth.

Kai,

You are over a mile high, so our times won't compare well with yours, as stated. I think you are trying to launch way too hard (lower your rpms as stated above) and take it easier when hitting the gas on the 1 to 2 shift. Try rolling on the throttle rather than stabbing it to the floor. Also, as stated above, shift as quickly as you can. This takes some practice as most of us get "adrenalized" when racing, even those who have raced a bunch. If I ever lose that rush, I'll probably quit.

Good luck,

Dan
