Hi all, does anyone have pix, or could anyone describe how rear speakers mount in the factory configuration on a 97 GTS. My cars stereo system was modified by previous owner who is clueless. Currently, the speakers are not directly behind the grilles in the fabric trunk cover that holds the grilles. They are about 6" off to the side,in front of tail light access in an area covered by heavy fabric, which muffles the sound. I dont see many GTS in my area, so i can't get a look at one. greatly appreciate any help, Thanks, Rich.

The speakers are in mounting holes right behind the speaker grills. The grills should line right up to the speakers when the trunk liner is in correctly. I don't see how the speakers can be placed behind the trunk liner. There isn't enough room to place them more outboard.

BTW the rear speakers really don't add much to the total sound output anyway. They are firing into the trunk and any high frequencies never make it out of the trunk. They may add a tiny bit of low end but I can't tell any difference.

the liner seems to be properly placed, and yes there are incorrectly positioned speakers under there.Do factory speakers just mount to the trunk liner, or is there a rigid mounting spot. I know these seem like easy questions, but this car belonged to panasonic corp, and who knows what they did as this car was their audio display. Before i purchased it, they removed their prototype equiptment, and incorrectly installed more conventional stuff.

They should be right behind the grill. Remove the cargo liner and see for yourself (if you've not done so already).
