You guys are whinning about paying only $3.20 for gas???? Try paying $5.00 like we do in Canada. The government (alberta and Federal) probably charge $over a dollar for their taxes, then the BC/Provincial government charges another $1.00 for their stinkin' taxes = $3. for gas and $2. for taxes!

And whining about housing in Hawaii? Same price for a house in Vancouver. Property taxes are nearing $700/month, what the Provincial Government calls "Social Services Tax" of 10% or more on Electricity, car registration, Property Transfer tax on any house or business that you buy, $10 SS tax on each phone bill, ***** by BC Government insurance, etc. etc. I personally don't know anyone (except a few millionaires) that make over $50-60,000 per year! It was announced that BC properties and prop. taxes went up an average 15% last year!

But, don't worry, it's getting worse. SS tax, enviromental taxes are going to have their names changed and then we'll get new, bigger "Green" Taxes next year, the year after that, and so on. Too late to whine now, either start screaming about it or join the homeless, lol. Oh yah, I forgot, they're going to build Billions worth of homes for the Homeless out of the tax moneys - that should raise the taxes quite a bit. Especially when the world's homeless are all moving here, lol.

What a joke!

MOVE TO CANADA!...only if you can handle the government giving you money because you're not working.

Basically our government taxes the @#$%%$ **** out of hard working citizens only to give to the unwilling lazy @#$%@% BUMS who don't want to work and expect a handout.

Getting back on track, I have noticed that Vipers for sale in Canada are priced significantly higher than Viper in the US. So I am going to travel South for my next Viper. :2tu: Just have to figure a way out to bring one across the border and not get gouged by the Canadian government.

You live in Alberta, your gov gets so much money from their share of the oil taxes that I heard they almost cancelled income tax, lol.

You're probably exempt from the 7% Social Services Tax and only pay 5% prov. tax? And no "extra luxury tax" at $55,000?

PERMABEAR here...we are heading for a DEPRESSION not a Recession. The unraveling of the way over leveraged, bogus derivatives market will be devastating. If you want to buy something wait until 2011.:smirk:

Economy is terrible. There have been so many job losses evolving around sub-prime, MBS, hedge funds, derivatives (basically anything that has sub-prime mortgages at its nerve center) that jobs in these sectors are hard to come by and there's ridiculous number of applicants for what positions are available. I've been working contract spots until I get back into a full-time spot again or I'll have move to a different industry. I'm between contracts now and it *****. I have little debt but with less discretionary income I won't be buying my S.C. anytime soon (sorry Sean). And no, I will not take out a HELOC to finance my S.C. or other toys. There are probably many people like me who put a hold on the discretionary spending for a while.

Then there are those who are what I call ******...people who have ARM's, 2nd, 3rd equity lines of credit max'd out, credit cards tapped...there are MANY. These folks are now trying to dump their oversized homes (which they couldn't afford in the first place) to avoid foreclosure and try to get rid of that monster ARM. Problem is home prices have dropped and the asking price won't cover the principal. Homes aren't selling, huge inventory, etc. Then there's the toys that now have to go...but aren't selling well. Think these folks will be buying that next new car, furniture, vacations anytime soon? Tack on gas prices, property taxes, etc. and its gets better.

But I believe it'll get worse this year before it rebounds modestly. I think the best deals on property and cars are yet to be had.

ah, the canadians. god bless you for living up there. i love your country but its politics seem a bit.... socialism-esq. taxes up there are out of control. and now they want to cxl the "income trust status" and nail everything at corporate rates?? that alone could kill the canadian economy seeing how natural resources are the core and need foreign investment. its a shame. as for the u.s., fire and brimstone is a possibility. not likely, but a possibility none the less. if default rates skyrocket beyond what is priced in, it will get worse. if that leaks into other mortgage and credit, it could be the waterfall effect. if it turns into Niagara, we are going to eat it something bad. only time will tell. just in case, im shorting everything except commodities!

Based on this morning's job report and unemployment, I think prices will continue softening...

While I 100% agree it's a buyers market I honestly can't see prices softening much more than they are now. Gen II RT10s are routintely in the low-mid 30d and GTS' are in the high 30s-low 40s price-wise.

Any cheaper than this and there will probably be a rash of people looking to buy I mean your buying a gorgeous supercar for the same price as a new honda accord. Look at the Porsche 930s (aka 911 Turbo) from the 80s. These cars are 20 years old and still routinely sell for 40k. Vipers make so much power they're not going to become "slow" even by modern standards for many many years to come (especially when you consider most manufacturers are scrambling to make smaller, more fuel-efficient models).

The stock market did what it always does and what it is supposed to do when the jobs report is down.

What YOU just told me is YOU don't know sh_t about the stock market.

:eater:

My 401K was totally out of stocks at DOW 14K. I was 100% SHORT in my trading account since 12/26 and made enough $$$s to buy half an '08 ACR.:smirk: How'd you do smart guy?:rolaugh:

You guys remember how the market value for an Amphicar went from $15k to $150k a couple of years ago thanks to Barret-Jackson?

So this is what you do:
Three guys consign to sell three regular Vipers at various times during the B-J auction week in January.
Each time one of those Vipers comes on the block, the other two guys start a bidding war. Propelling the price to: say around $300k.
The crowd will get to their feet cheering furiously. Craig on the podium will swing his fists in the air and flash that millionaire's smile. That other B-J guy with the sunglasses will also be smiling and nodding on national TV.

The next day everybody's Viper will be worth $300,000. Pensioners with a paid off mortgage will scramble to get one to show off. Every dweeb with a bank account would want to get one to permanantly park in his private museum.

Moral:
Only the non Viper guys who currently own Vipers obsess on the market values of their cars.

there is something VERY wrong when the government makes more money on gasoline and cigarettes than the companies that produce them ! ! !

Very true the cheapest cars are always in the hands of regualar guys the not hard-core viper guys like on the message boards. Since these cars are getting cheaper it's only a matter of time before the majority of good examples (clean history, up to date service, nice upgrades, etc...) will all be in the hands of board members. I still really think now is the time to buy a viper the car will never be worth a ton of money but prices really can't get much cheaper for such an iconic car.

the taxes on gasoline/gal. are huge when you include fed, state and sales taxes.

Gas Taxes

here in mich state tax cents per gal(cpg)------- $ 0.19 + 6% sales tax + $0.0875cpg envronmental fee

fed gas tax (cpg)------ $ 0.184

total tax on a $3/gal of gas is over $ 0.50 per gal to the govt. state and fed.

cigarette taxes by state look up yours this state only not the fed tax !

http://www.tobaccofreekids.org/research/factsheets/pdf/0222.pdf

there is not way that including the retail/ wholesale and actualy cost factored into the retail price of $3-4/pack that the tobacco co. is making more than $2per pack that the state of Mich(not including fed tax) in taxes gets.

current fed tax on a pack is $0.39

here in Mich that is $2.39 in TAX on a $4 per pack item Not including the 6% sales tax ! !

tony hit the nail on the head there. its going to get much worse, imo. im banking on a stiff recession in 08 lasting through 09. high end vipers will be very soft as will real estate. those sitting on piles of cash will find a buyers market in a year that will be like a "going out of business sale" on everything. cash is king :2tu: .

i agree with you on the timeframe.

those idling in cash are watching their purchasing power decrease by the month. if you aren't successfully chasing yield, most likely you are falling behind, so cash is not necessarily king. the shiny yellow stuff has been closer to king.

i'd rather walk into my garage and see that i have one of 1166 (96 GTS) on this earth than a *** of greenbacks the fed can continually print more of whenever they want.

and the CPI numbers are total crap. Shadow Government Statistics » Home

Not exactly sure if it is economy driven, gas price or seasonal, but there are some great buys out there. I just picked up a 24k mile 1999 GTS silver/blue for a very good price. I got lucky on a nice car because I was a cash buyer to a desperate seller.
In my search, I was surprised at how much people were willing to deal. A few mentioned how they had wanted their car sold by the end of the year.
There is a 2000 RT blue/cognac with 22k that the owner said he would take $37k for.
There is the 1997 GTS in red with 6k miles and new tires all around for $39,900. The tires were replaced because the originals were 10 years old. The car sits in a dealers showroom.
There is also a 2003 SRT with 28k and brand new tires that was @$43k asking.

i couldnt agree more. im 50% short the indexes and 50% long gold, oil, and nat gas. but, there is risk in my positions. unless your a trader and know what your doing, cash is king. yes, the greenback is and will continue to decline but everything else will decline more.
