If the project is above your head, just say it's above your head.

I had a hard time keeping a straight face, and then he says he needs the car as well (on an OEM rear muffler section).

I try to keep my money in this town first, let them let me down time and time again and then go to those in the know.

(rant over, back to regular programming)

He probably would need to have the car there to make sure it looks right, but $400 is rediculous! I think I got mine done with tips for $70 on my last car. He saw a Viper and saw dollar signs! You know on the old Looney Toons cartoons where Sylvester looked at Tweety and saw a big, juicy, roasted chicken sitting there? I think that's how Viper owners look to mechanics. :)

That's just it, I'm low key.

I showed up in my daily driver with the section in the trunk.

Luckily I just finally had an answer from a local guru in Detroit that comes well regarded. The guy is so swamped he doesn't answer the phone in my 10 attempts. He picked up and I snagged him for an appt on Tuesday am, awesome. Guess it all works out in the end. Take a few hours for border tie ups and driving, but that will all be forgotten when it's on the car.

Have to unlock my roe cats and header install, that rear muffler is hopfully plugging up the increase that did not materialize (421 to 418 dyno after OEM 2000 headers and Roe Ovals, not good). I'll keep ya posted.....

Think I'll swing by the local dolt that gave me the quote with the bill, not sure why I am so bitter about that $400 quote.......maybe I'll laugh later!:D

Thanks Ron, even though our dollar is climbing, that's around 6 hundy my money!!

How come you dumped it? Too loud? I have 2 sections, one OEM, one with this soon to be delete. Have enough seat time on the OEM that's tame, even with the Roe Ovals.

Hoping it will not become annoyingly loud, any insight?

Thanks guys,

The OEM muffler is a straight through design with no neck down. Only flow obstruction is turbulance do to the fact that the pipes are perforated. Also acts as a crossover, so make sure your muffler guy does add in a crossover.

Same thing here: exhaust work when you tell them it's a Viper = $$$. Tinted windows too. I told them I had a Fiero and the price was $90. I said what about a Viper (same glass area) and it went to $400. BS

Ryan, I believe this. Average people think that fortunate people (you, me and every other Viper owner on the board) are complete morons. They fail to understand that someone didn't dump a Viper in our driveway and that maybe hard work and being "somewhat" wise in the ways of the world had something to do with it...

When people quote stupid prices it is the same thing as saying, "you probably have no concept of money and whatever I say will be resoanable since you are driving a Viper"...it makes me see red.

Oh well, off to drive the Viper :D

take care

LOL I got a quote for an alignment today and he said it would be $250 since it was an exotic. I laughed and told him "it's a Dodge, not a Ferrari!" The funny thing was that the guy in the Ford truck in front of me was quoted $60! I declined!

Never had one done, but aren't the alignments $180 - $200 @ the Dodge dealerships. I thought someone had posted that before.

We ALL know dealerships are too high, so this guy was WAY off. He does alignments for Norwood, which is an exotic shop here in Dallas. They do all kinds of crazy turbos on Ferrari's and Lambo's. I guess he thinks I fall in that category? lol Not even close, pal!

It is like when the home improvement guy or the car salesman is sizing you up for an estimate and asks what type of work you do, you end up lying and telling him that you are dental assistant rather than an **** surgeon. It's amazing how flexible and variable an estimate can be based on your look,` occupation, car you drive, etc.

Hi Ryan,

Can I ask where you are having your exhaust work done in Detroit? I'm thinking about changing my Mopar muffler to a Dynomax but it entails cutting and welding and I'm not sure where would be a good capable place to take it.

Thanx,
Tom

Tom, I'll email you the info and contact, this guy is the best.......

As soon I explained the rear **** section is off the car he said no problem we'll set up a jig on the oem and then fine tune the new setup on the jig to the OEM specs.

That's what I wanted to hear, god I love people in the know.

email on Sat, going out have some brews!

Ryan
