You will want a shop that specializes in differentials, specifically Dana 44 gear swaps (common with Jeeps)...those will typically cater to the off-road crowd, so think "off road performance" rather than "high speed performance" when it comes to looking for shops.

Highly recommend pulling the diff yourself if possible, but any shop that works cars should be capable of doing at least that.

Gear swaps require some specialty tools, but above all it requires experience. You can substitute time for experience, but most shops that prioritize profit over doing the job right won't be willing to spend the 10+ hours it could take to get everything set up exactly how it needs to be to ensure quiet operation and a long service life. IMO, any shop that doesn't quote at least 10 hours of labor isn't the right one. Putting their most junior guy on it would also be a red flag.

Some will claim that differentials are an art and can only be set up properly by feel, but experience has taught me that it is a science that requires the correct process. Follow the process and like most things in science, you'll see that the results are repeatable.

Use an OEM Dana/Spicer gear set if at all possible.

I have a whole thread dedicated to Gen 3/4/5 gear swaps in another section if you really want to go down a rabbit hole. The process should be similar for earlier Gen cars.

Ask for Toney (certified Mopar/Viper mechanic). Installed a Wavetrac and 3.55 gear set in my 04 Viper this past summer. They are only 45 minutes directly west of Dayton. Highly recommend with excellent service and quick turnaround. Agree with the other posts - go to someone who specializes in transmissions!
