Mirror Lights will not turn off

So my daughter got a hold of my spare keys and managed to lock the car from the upstairs bedroom. I went out into the garage and noticed the car was locked so I grabbed my keys from downstairs and unlocked the car, opened it up and closed the door. As I was walking away from the car I noticed the mirror lights were not powering off. They just stayed on. So i grabbed the keys from the upstairs bedroom and repeated the steps previously mentioned and same thing. Now the car hasn't been plugged into a battery tender for a while so I plugged it in thinking that maybe this is a symptom of a low battery (long shot I know) and they still haven't turned off. Any ideas anybody? Car is a GEN IV VERT.

Forgot to mention...I also started the car and lights turned off while the engine was running but they stayed on after ignition was turned off.

did you push the power button under the mirror? or the light switch on the left is all the way down ?

Checked the power switch under the mirrors. Both in off position. The light switch on the light stalk was not all the way down however it was in what I will call "standby mode" where the will come on when a door is opened and tuen off after 30 sec when it is closed.

maybe disconnect the battery and step on the brakes to drain any left over power and wait a few mins to reset anything that got changed?

This is where I'd start. She could've been pushing any combination of things to confuse the system.

In the mean time... if that doesn't work then find the right fuse and pull it. At least it won't be on constantly till you get it figured out.

Another longshot before you disconnect battery....pogram it to sleep mode, see if lights go out when "sleeping"...wait a few minutes, awaken it and see if this helps. LONGSHOT !!!

How long did you wait to see if the mirror lights went out? Perhaps it's that simple. I went thru the same scenario a few months back. went back into the garage after @ 5 minutes and they were off.

To be honest I'm not sure how long I waited. The only reason it didn't occur to me to allow time to pass I guess was because I started the car, let it run, and the issue was still there afterwards. I'll have to give this a try though. Thanks.

Update...

I tried waiting it out. Let about 25 min. go by and they were still on! I also tried the "sleep mode" feature. I could not get this to engage. I read the manual and it mentions it will do this on a fully changed battery so I have to assume that mine is not fully charged and thats why it will not go into "sleep mode." I have had the car on a battery tender since I left the house today at 1 p.m. and it was still showing charging when I got home at 10:30 so the battery must be pretty low. I'll be busy tomorrow so I don't know if i'll have time to try and disconnect the battery and see if that does the trick but I will keep you posted. Also...keep the ideas rolling in.

Bob, long shot here but by chance are both doors fully closed? I'm wonder if perhaps the passenger door isn't fully closed causing the lights to stay on?

Hey Tony...both doors are closed. That was a first thought of mine.

I have been playing with that thing so much it's making me crazy. I just got home from work, turned the dimmer control to the "parade mode" (half white circle) closed the doors and went into the house. Checked on the light 30 min later and still on. Gonna try reprogramming the transmitter and see if maybe that will do the trick. After that it's gonna be disconnecting the battery and if I can find it...purge the fuse and see what happens. ARG!

You're not alone Bob, I have exactly the same problem since about one month now.
Only way I found (for now) to get the mirror lights to go off when the engine is off, is to turn the dimmer swith to off on the light stalk.
Let me know what solution you find ?

Try what I do. I have the "light stalk" between the half-white circle and the top of the dimmer maximum setting. It works fine in that exact spot for me.

Glad to know I'm not the only one. :whew: I'm getting new battery's for my transmitters to see if somehow this is the issue. I a tually couldn't seem to get my secondary transmitter to relearn the car. Still plugging away.

Just a thought but is your decklid/trunk closed (and latched)? had same deal with mine (coupe though) even though it was closed all the way my carcover was stuck in the latch.
Nothing to do with your problem but I unhooked The battery tender which had been on since a week after VOI and showed fully charged, started the car and moved it over 1 space, hooked it back up and the green light started flashing which is supposed to be 80% charge but it took well over 24 hours to show a full charge??? Normally on other cars and motorcycles this would of been full charged within an hour.

Resolution!!!!! I unhooked the battery from under the hood, waited 10 minutes, hooked the battery back up, put the key in the ignition and turned it to the on position, all interior lights came on, returned the light stalk wheel to the half circle, got out of the car and closed the door, LIGHTS WENT OUT AFTER 30 SECONDS!!!!!!!

Mine is in the trunk and those bolts holding the panel are so long, it's a pain.

There is a positive battery terminal under the hood in case you need to jump the car. You have to remove the fuse box cover to get to the two screws that i'm pointing to in the picture.

Unscrew these screws completely and remove the cable from the posts. Walk away for 10 minutes. Hook everything back up and get in the car. Nothing will work till you turn the key to the on position. Once you do that all the lights should come on. Turn the key to the off position. Get out of the car and close the door. Lights should turn off after 30 seconds. Make sure you return the dimmer switch to the half circle position.

Nothing on removal, but mine did throw some sparks when putting back the Black cable on the screws, but only the very first time it touched it.
