I have read that mothballs in a closet will cost the foam padding in a helmet to deteriorate, just from the fumes. Not sure how true it is and have never experimented. Will mothball fumes, say from mothballs on a garage floor hurt a Viper's body?

paradichlorobenzene = mothballs
the organic vapors could cause damage to foam

Mothballs & cars are very uncool. I looked at a mustang a few years back and the owner had put mothballs inside the car to "preserve" it. When I opened the door the fumes practically burned my eyes. Closer inspection revealed that the mothballs had found a way to grow on things. They sort of crystallized and took on a life of their own. The cloth seats and seat belts were completely covered with mothball growth. Must be a name for the phenomenon, but anyway between the stench and the damage done to the interior the car was effectively totaled. Of course the seller noticed nothing and wanted top $.
